The US is planning a total withdrawal of its military forces from Syria... “We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency,” the president tweeted Wednesday morning.

But seriously, I hope we will maintain the capability to prevent Anti-American elements from taking over, by a combination of air support and logistical support to our allies on the ground. 2,000 US troops is not a lot compared to a conflict the size of the Syrian Civil War - it may be offset through other means.

First reaction is distraction from no wall.

Exactly. And do we really believe ISIS is defeated in Syria?

Well, it’s not like the Kurds weren’t warned they’d get stabbd in the back. If they had any sense, they’d make nice with Assad.

Sarcasm or alternate reality?

"Democrats Outraged! ...."

..... As we pull out .... In response .... ISIS will more than likely make a huge statement in the coming months..... Then declare their supremacy in the region.

The spin we will hear is Trump sacrificing Syria to Russia.

“Total withdrawal”

Nope, we’re pouring concrete right now in three locations in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan).

So long as the USA continues to fund and support ISIS and other fantasy “moderate” Islamic terrorists in Syria, ISIS will not be defeated. Let the Russians deal with it. They were invited in, not the USA. Personally, I am sick of the US having their hands and taxpayer money involved in the slaughter of ancient Christian communities there (and elsewhere in the ME, frankly).
Next, get out of Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, etc. and stop funding the Saudi butchers.

“There is a victory near over Isis but it has very little to do with us.” “...like we did with Iraq in Mosul”

Thanks for citing the biggest defeat that ISIS has ever suffered (Mosul), to counter your own argument that the US has little to do with the defeat of ISIS. The US provided the airpower for that battle (the biggest urban battle since Stalingrad in WWII), as well as direct support artillery. The overwhelming bulk of the explosives which reduced that major city were produced in the United States.

In fact, the overwhelming amount of the explosives dropped on ISIS all throughout Iraq and Syria (Fallujah, Ramadi, Raqqa, etc.) were American provided, and often American delivered on target. The US did not go door-to-door in Mosul - the Iraqi Army, Counter-Terrorism Forces and Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd al Shaabi militias) did.

The United States provided the overall planning, command and control of the entire Coalition campaign to destroy ISIS in detail across Iraq and Syria (and beyond). This included real time intelligence/targeting information, as well as organizing, training, equipping and paying for local militias who did kick in doors.

The Assad Regime had its hands full with the Turkish/Qatari/Obama/McCain-supported jihadis in the Heartland (M5 corridor from Damascus to Aleppo) and North of Syria. In percentage terms, only a few percentage points of ISIS casualties were inflicted by Regime forces (Palmyra, along the Southern edge of Lake Assad). They tacitly allowed the USA to manage clearing ISIS West of the Euphrates River and in the major operation to liberate Raqqa, with local militias (SDF, who now control the territory). The US Coalition defeated ISIS.

The upcoming battle in Idlib looks to be shaping up as a Syrian Regime/Russian/(Iranian?) effort, against Turkish/(Qatari?)-supported rebels - without significant US involvement. Good luck to you all.

Good ! Now state that we will militarily back and insure the security of the State of Israel and any attack , by any party , upon the State of Israel will be met by a Joint U.S. - Israeli response , to the total decimation of any and all aggressors . Israel for it’s part should grant land for a permanent U.S. military port and land air base . ( as Syria has done with Russia )

Any ‘re-grouping ‘ of identified ISIS forces should be carpet bombed by B-52’s . Regardless of where they occur or whatever ancillary civilian casualties may be incurred . Ground forces not necessary . Use ‘dumb’ bombs - arch light strikes
