College Kid Beats Back the Chicago Machine and Boss Madigan Blinks
The Chicago Tribune ^ | December 16, 2018 | John Kass

Posted on 12/16/2018 4:38:32 PM PST by PBRCat

DePaul University freshman David Krupa scored an impressive victory in Chicago politics on Saturday: Boss Madigan — the most powerful Democrat in Illinois — backed out of a challenge to Krupa’s candidacy for alderman in the Southwest Side’s 13th Ward.

“I am truly humbled to be the first candidate on the ballot to challenge the 13th Ward since 1991,” Krupa, 19, told me at the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners offices.

A few political guys mumbled privately that Madigan must be so angry that he might as well fill a burlap bag of the severed heads of a few of his precinct captains and hang them from the statue of the giant Indian on 63rd Street as a warning to all.

“He’s got to be so pissed off,” said a political guy who knows Madigan. “I can’t even think what’s on his mind.”

This David and Goliath story went national last week, a saga of machine political overkill that failed, with thousands of false and felonious affidavits possibly carrying felony perjury charges, and Chicago Democrats trying to avoid answering questions about it lest they anger the boss.

Krupa needed 473 valid signatures of ward residents to get on the ballot. He filed 1,729 signatures with the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

Madigan precinct captains — filed 2,796 petitions of revocation of signature. That means 2,796 ward residents filed legal affidavits that they wanted their signatures taken off Krupa’s petitions.

The Madigan men filed 187 affidavits of revocation matching Krupa signatures. But a progressive who’d done election work for the late Mayor Harold Washington and former President Barack Obama, put in a Freedom of Information Act request asking the board to give him all the revocations affidavits that were filed.

Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx should investigate.

They tried to scare him off but kudos for standing his ground. Don’t expect they are done yet trying to make him quit.

Wow. Chicago is corrupt at all levels. Even the Attorney is not acting, waiting for instructions from hillary or Obama, who knows, hedging.

Screw this place

Is there a penalty for revoking a signature that was never made?

He who sells what isn’t his’n
must buy it back or go to prison.

Thanks for the post.

One time I voted in Illinois. It was like a big abacus with flippers and lever to finalize your vote. Lots of noise but no real record of who “got” the vote.

Really cool! Madigans district is gely Hispanic and some feel its winnable even by the right kind of young attractive and articulate Republican who really would work on it. But Madigan getting screwed by his own political machine run amok is even better! Hope this kid works his tail off!

When the soviet empire crumbled and they were looking to see what democracy was about, they bought those chicago voting machines for the their first election.

Richard J Daley won.

My understanding from the article I read was that the wording on the form was specific. Such that if they had not signed the original to get him on the ballot and then signed the revocation they had perjured themselves.

Problem is all the DAs are in the Boss’s pocket so the article didn’t expect to see any charges filed despite ~1000 invalid revocations.

Saw the kid interviewed on WGN. Classy kid - very mature, very poised. Among the things he told the interviewer: one of the local pols (I can’t remember if it was the current aldercreature or a precinct captain, but I think it was the former) came out of his pick-up truck and told the fellow that he seemed like a nice kid, it would be a shame if anything happened to him. The young man said he filed a police report (not that it would do any good, but it does put it on the record), but that is so typical of the Madigan machine it truly rankles even the most jaded of clear-thinking Chicagoans (not that there are many of those left).

Let’s correct a spelling error: It should be the CROOK County Attorney Fox. If it has anything to do with Chicago region politics, it is CROOKED.

...So they filed 1000 extra signatures of people who signed his petition, but changed their minds enough to file legal paperwork to remove it? Something tells me no more than five of those were legit...
