We’ll see.

BTW, the SEC does not look fondly on publicly-traded companies that falsify official financial documents.

Facebook stockholders need to run to their lawyers with Facebook’s Annual Report.

I hate FB as much as anybody, but tell me why Section 230 Immunity couldn’t be stripped from FR in in a similar fashion by a future demoncrap administration.

Mmmmmmm....apples and oranges.

For one....F/B is a publicly-traded company....FR is not.

There is no viable alternative to FB. I have family in other countries and it’s the only way to effectively communicate to all of them.

I know for a fact that certain posts do not reach certain people in specific countries - they’re censoring content at the behest of the respective government. FB is working directly with the Chinese government to control information.

This is evil and is far too much power for one company to have. Google, Paypal, YouTube, Twitter, etc. are no different. Voices are being silenced as well as being financially handicapped when Paypal cancels accounts. These are the same tactics that the Nazi’s used on the Jews.

Between this crap and globalism (open borders) we’re heading straight into a storm.

1) Mr. Newt...his interference in the 2009 special election in NY-23 showde just how “conservative”(/s) he is.

2) “...the energy and the impact of Free Republic began to crumble around 2008.” Purges have played a significant part in that disintegration.

Facebook is beyond the point where they could be bankrupted by litigation.

All good points, but I think FB has grown so large around the world and accumulated so much wealth and power that there is nothing any government can do to stop them at this point.

The bio of Zuckerberg that aired on "Reelz" was an eye opener. He is a ruthless sociopath who (like democrats) seeks total devastation of any opposition. The people around him and those who want to be are totally dominated and controlled by him and their ability to control content and channel communications now extends to every country in the world.

This is far more serious than I ever would have guessed.

Chilling reports say Zuck wanted banks to give him users account info, including transactions, so they can check balances online (cue hysterical laugh machine here).

Zuck also sought users medical records. Thinks he's a healer?

Clinton wrote the corporate shakedown for donations to his political party; Obama put his administration into the corporate board rooms. Trump will break the DNC corporate nexus and hit them with antitrust.

“This is far more serious than I ever would have guessed.”

Agree. A couple of years ago I wouldn’t have considered it. The internet was considered too pervasive and diverse to enable such control. There’s no way to scrub something from the internet right? Hmmm - I used to think so but it seems some entities have professionalized the ability to do so, with the assistance of companies like FB.

We need a distributed, decentralized, open source social platform - probably leveraging blockchain techniques so when something is published it can’t be tampered with.

I recently saw a UK government panel questioning an officer from YouTube - complaining that “the wrong material” shows up for recommended viewing, that they *must* change their algorithms. It turned out that there was a single focus of their concern - Tommy Robinson. They HAD to shut him down, their entire issue was with Tommy videos, the poor guy from YouTube didn’t seem to know who Tommy was and could only say he couldn’t speak to specific videos. They just kept pounding on him....Tommy this Tommy that. It was obvious there was no broad concern, just him.

Now add to this governments paying (via tax breaks) “news” media for reporting the “right” information - as Canada has announced, to the tune of $500 million. Anyone that believes this isn’t to enable more censorship is incredibly naive.

According to the biography I saw, he is really not that interested in money. When FB was values at less than $20 million, Yahoo offered him $1 BILLION and a continuing management position. He turned them down flat. His obsession is with control and manipulation.

"The object is not for conservatives to have a place to go. The object is to get the conservative message as it is - not as the left THINKS it is - out."
**************

Even if something were possible to control the censorship and propaganda ability FB has in America, the fact that he has 2 billion users world wide pretty much makes him unstoppable. As the biography explained, "No one can imagine what he is planning next".

Hopefully, that rule does not apply to Free Republic.

Some gun grabber is insisting on a ‘review’ of applicants’ politics, er social media posts as part of the background check before you can purchase a gun.

And the founder and CEO of Mozilla/Firefox was ousted after an illegal IRS leak of his personal donation to the popularly passed ‘Prop 8’ in California. Everyone who donated or voted for it could be denied employment on that basis.

And I don’t think FR has tried to place an App in the iTunes app store or partner with a credit card company or paypal. And FR hasn’t sought corporate sponsorships and ads that can be targeted by angry twitterbot boycott campaigns.

Kate Patchen, the chief of the Department of Justice's antitrust division in San Francisco, has joined Facebook as director and associate general counsel of litigation.

Conflict of interest much?
