President Trump on Thursday continued to respond to a rebuke from Chief Justice John Roberts, saying the Supreme Court justice "can say what he wants" while defending his criticism of the federal judiciary following a ruling against his administration this week.
"Justice Roberts can say what he wants, but the 9th Circuit is a complete & total disaster. It is out of control, has a horrible reputation, is overturned more than any Circuit in the Country, 79%, & is used to get an almost guaranteed result. Judges must not Legislate Security and Safety at the Border, or anywhere else. They know nothing about it and are making our Country unsafe. Our great Law Enforcement professionals MUST BE ALLOWED TO DO THEIR JOB! If not there will be only bedlam, chaos, injury and death. We want the Constitution as written!"
Trump issued the response after sending a pair of other tweets defending his response to Saudi Arabia this week over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and wishing a "HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!"
The president prompted a rebuke from the chief justice this week after he went after a federal judge in California who ruled against his administration's asylum policy. Trump dismissed to the U.S. district court judge who issued the ruling as "an Obama judge" while defending his administration's policy.
"We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges," Roberts responded in a rare statement released by the Supreme Court on Wednesday. What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them."
That independent judiciary is something we should all be thankful for," the chief justice added in the statement, which came a day before Thanksgiving.
Trump rejected the criticism on Wednesday afternoon.
"Sorry Chief Justice John Roberts, but you do indeed have 'Obama judges,' and they have a much different point of view than the people who are charged with the safety of our country," he tweeted.
U.S. District Court Judge Jon Tigar on Monday had sided with opponents of the Trump administration policy prohibiting certain immigrants from claiming asylum, granting their request for a temporary restraining order.
Trump blasted the ruling the following day while not referring to the judge by name but calling him "an Obama judge."
Tigar was appointed to the federal bench by the former president in 2012.
Trump went after the judge at the White House while railing against the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears cases appealed by the district court in California.
He wasn't.
Time for John Roberts to resign. He can be Jim Acosta’s personal lawyer, then run Milt Romney’s campaign for the 2020 Republican nomination. After that he can do any number of things; “pound sand” would probably be on that list.
What a set of colossal blunders Roberts has made...
1 he’s now engaged in a public spat with the Apex predator of the world... who also happens to be the US President. He is picking a fight where he shouldn’t (being a judge), where he has no (power) weapons but words (the President has unlimited weapons), and Trump`s supporters are with him...creating a hardening of divisions in the Country.
2 he’s now opened himself up to attacks from Trump supporters who have for years protected him (in spite of it being a tax) about his adopted kids or whatever they have on him for the bkackmail/extortion..
3 he has opened himself up to cries for recusal.
4 Trump WILL get payback and it WILL be painful for Roberts
:)
Yes, the MSM will hang on his every word since he hates Trump.
IMHO, Roberts may have to resign. No loss.
Justice Roberts has violated the judicial canon of ethics.
Canon 5: A Judge Should Refrain from Political Activity
(C) Other Political Activity. A judge should not engage in any other political activity. This provision does not prevent a judge from engaging in activities described in Canon 4.

President Trump may soon get the chance to nominate a CJ of SCOTUS.
And Trump would love to push the “flush” handle....
Ginsburg is a serial violator of all of these canons.
Why is she still on the court?!
The 9th the worst - talk about totalitarian? That's the 9th. If Judge Roberts can't see it it's because he's blinded by the Bush hated of Trump. Bushes turned out to be the ultimate sore losers. Pathetic.
Dissolve the ninth circuit and absorb the cases into another. Send all the judges therein back home to private life. Let it serve as a lesson that a 79% error rate in unacceptable.
But the senior GHWB didn’t seem to mind losing to Clinton after all.
I wish the Hill all the misery in the world for Thanksgiving in return for all the fake, phony, biased drivel they venomously spew out on their pages.
The Ninth Circuit is a joke. Roberts knows this. Look for a recusal on his part to lead to a deadlock and the Ninth Circuit decision being left in place.
Someone said Roberts is a turd. He is. He is an erudite, duplicitous turd.
Maybe Trump should get the message to Roberts about the dubious adoption and that Trump will let the cat out of the bag. People think Roberts caved on 0-Care due to similar threats from Dems.
9th circuit has had the rep of being ultra liberal, it was common knowledge. Trump points out the obvious, so the liberals are forced to deny the obvious, They end up just looking rediculous.
They all saw themselves as ‘elites’ - better than the American people. Nice that we finally saw the true colors of these jerks...
Trump, follow the law. Courts have no jurisdiction for many of the cases you allow them to hear; or in others the only court with jurisdiction is the SCOTUS. Appearing in a court that does not have jurisdiction, gives them jurisdiction and is actually against the law.
Return to USConstitution or perish.
If that were to happen then it only makes PDJT's point, that the judiciary, in many cases, rules not based on law but based on feelings, leftist agenda and social justice warrior politics.
Yeah right, John! If that's the case, why is there always a division in the court based on ideology? So where are you John? Is it really 5-4 right now or is it 4-4 with one a$$hole? I am thinking it's the latter!
“One doesnt want to go after the USSC CJ and miss.
Lets hope Trump has the goods and the follow-through on whats occurring here.”
We all want Ginsberg and Breyer to go. And they will because age overrides all. But I truly believe that it would be a more important change if Roberts were to be gone.
Like a bottom sucker, Robert’s takes the bait, pulls out a little drag, then fades fast. Trump now has positive citation for a politicized judiciary.
