Not everyone believes Elvis is the king.
President Trump will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to seven Americans on Friday, including the late rock star Elvis Presley, though even that gesture is coming under fire from liberals.
Trump is honoring Presley, baseball legend Babe Ruth, former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, philanthropist Miriam Adelson, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, jurist Alan Page, and Hall-of-Fame quarterback Roger Staubach.
Still, some have accused Trump of racism for honoring Presley, long known as the "King of Rock and Roll."
The Washington Posts pop culture critic Chris Richards called Trumps move a little nod to the good old days, back when black visionaries could invent rock-and-roll, but only a white man could become the king.
Yes, Trump is sending a message here, Richards wrote That claim has been scoffed at online, with the Weekly Standard publishing a rebuttal titled, Elvis Wasnt Racist. Neither Is Giving Him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
If youre invested in making Elvis an avatar for racial resentments more than 40 years after his death, youre, perhaps unwittingly, making the problems of contemporary divisions worse, columnist Mark Hemingway wrote. Music is one of a precious few cultural forces still holding us together.
Liberals have also protested Trumps award for Adelson, the wife of GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson. The New York Times columnist Paul Krugman called the award to Adelson ludicrous and an insult to people who received the medal for genuine service. Krugman said shes done nothing for her country besides being the wife of a Trump-friendly megadonor.

“...black visionaries could invent rock-and-roll..”
That is a meme that got going and is now accepted as honest history.
Anybody ever hear “In the Mood”?
Even Elvis did not create rock and roll. He created his own sound and they called it rock and roll. It was originally called rockabilly. Not a thing to do with black music.
Bob Wills says he was doing it much earlier, they just did not call it rock and roll.
Does he even listen to rock and roll? Or just twee shoegaze emo techno pop?

Ellis auditorium, Memphis. Radio station WDIA, the first all black station held its annual fundraiser for needy black children. As a child, Elvis used to listen to this station. As a recording artist, WDIA played Elvis' records.
The guy in the indian headdress with Elvis is singer and WDIA DJ Rufus Thomas. The guy with the bow tie is BB King. With Elvis and BB King is singer Claudia Ivy.
Due to contractual recording obligations, Elvis couldnt and didnt perform. However, at one point Rufus introduced Elvis and pulled him onto the stage (pictured). Elvis obliged them with a little leg wiggle which sent the all black audience into wild hysterics and many of them rushed the stage with the hope of getting closer to Elvis.

"While they were civil, they never really had much to say and I might feel a chill between them and me. But Elvis was different. I remember him distinctly because he was friendly, polite to a fault, spoke with this thick molasses southern accent and always called me 'sir'. I liked that. When he appeared at the Goodwill Revue, a yearly benefit for needy black kids sponsored by WDIA, he did himself proud. Remember this was the fifties so for a young white boy, by then a big, big star to show up in an all-black function in 1957 took "guts". I believe he was showing his roots and he seemed proud of those roots. I hold no grudges. Elvis didn't steal any music from anyone. He just had his own interpretation of the music he'd grown up on, same was true for me, the same true for everyone. I think Elvis had integrity (In fact), more than anyone, he was the guy who kicked the revolution into high gear" - Abridged from BB King 'autobiography "Blues all around me"
Hound Dog was written by a couple of Jewish guys who later went on to write Elvis’ early movie hits.
Gee, I wonder why Presley’s daughter didn’t attend. Just can’t imagine why......
“Hound Dog” is a twelve-bar blues song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Recorded originally by Willie Mae “Big Mama” Thornton on August 13, 1952............
“Hound Dog” has been recorded more than 250 times.
********** the songwriters or their heirs are still getting heft checks (residuals) from this.
No, no, although that’s the worry when you fire off angry replies that the person you’re replying to might assume you’re talking about them rather than someone in the piece you’re replying about.
I thought it was the mob’s heirs making bank on this today.
Jerry Lieber was hung out an office window by his feet and forced to signed over his rights in the 1960s for one dollar. In exchange, he got to live.
Great photos and a young BB King who I saw three or so times in the 1970s
They really have creative minds, these leftists! They turn something innocent into racism.
Leftists destroy everything they touch. Pure, Satanic evil.
Check out Don Arden the big Jewish mobster in music in the UK. Sharon Osbourne’s dad. He hung a few recalcitrant musicians out the window with help from Peter Grant who went on to manage Led Zeppelin.
“Don Arden (born Harry Levy; 4 January 1926 21 July 2007)” - wikipedia I can laugh I am Jewish so.....
Arden threatened Steve Marriott, he would break his fingers if he left Small Faces.

I presume Wikipedia will clean this up, but here is teh CURRENT wikipedia reference to Miram Adelson getting the medal:
“In 2018, she purchased the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump”
I like the Rush parody -Elvis-about 2 liberals buying a Yugo to tune In the Ghetto.
I see a whole lot of cultural appropriation in those pictures!
Jerry Lieber clawed his way back to wealth by buying music catalogs. Somwhere Over The Rainbow was one of the songs he bought.
Whoever wrote that on wiki, I’ll bet never had a problem with obama giving the medal of freedom to his biggest donors.
These are all things that Elvis at one time or another was involved in. How much was show or how effective it was Ill leave for others to debate. The point is that one of these black stars should try and do something useful and maybe they will earn a medal also.
Best of the parodies on el'Rushbo.
