The White House and President Trump took some heat on Saturday after it was announced that he would not make a previously scheduled visit to a cemetery in France for Americans killed in World War I due to inclement weather.
Trump arrived in France on Friday to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, along with first lady Melania Trump. They'd planned to visit Ainse-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, France. The president was expected to lay a wreath and observe a moment of silence.
The first couple was supposed to travel to the site via helicopter, according to The Hill. But the White House released a statement, saying the visit had been called off.
The President and First Ladys trip to Ainse-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial has been canceled due to scheduling and logistical difficulties caused by the weather, the statement said. An American delegation led by Chief of Staff General John Kelly and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joe Dunford will attend on their behalf.
The decision drew negative reactions from two officials who served in previous administrations.
David Frum, a speechwriter for former President George W. Bush, took to Twitter to slam the move, insisting that other transportation accommodations couldve been made in case of poor weather.
It's not even 60 miles from central Paris to the monument. If the weather is too wet & windy for helicopters, a presidential motorcade could drive the distance in an hour, Frum tweeted. On site, presidential advance could easily erect a tent to protect the dignitaries (and the the presidential hair-do) from inclement weather.
A later tweet said, Two words: contingency plans. Previous White Houses made them.

They were taking a lot of heat on Twitter for scrapping it especially because Macron, Merkel, and Trudeau showed up.
The President’s security is top priority, talking heads can shut up.
Possible assassination attempt by Deep State globalists is my guess and Trump’s team wisely saw it and erred on the side of caution.
These people never stop b*tching!
Annoying chitterings from the Bush Camp peanut gallery.
Ah, big deal. Our boys bailed out the Frogs from the Gerries, with the Russkies’ help. Not impressed those three loser nations made the visit in vain. Trump just gave them all a virtual middle finger. Maybe if NATO “allies” started to carry their own weight, they would not be so offended.
I regret voting for Romney, McCain and W.
Can you imagine the risk of a 50-mile, spur of the moment motorcade?
Seems like a bad idea.
Seems a little odd that deep state swamp dwellers from both sides of the aisle wanted the president at this site...
Not really into conspiracies, but it is just a little odd
You are exactly correct. This was all about security.
“A later tweet said, Two words: contingency plans. Previous White Houses made them.””
I have two words of my own for Frum, F*CK YOU and the whole worthless BOOSH Family. We need to rid ourselves of the BOOSHES as much or more than we do the CLITONS. Thankfully, the CLITON name will not continue unless Slick’s half-Black son takes his name and runs for public office. When I think that the BOOSHES were the “only thing” we had to run for the Presidency after Ronald Reagan, I strengthen my resolve to NEVER give the RNC, NRSC or the NRCC another dime!
Can’t Trump go to the Normany Beach and build a heart from some stones?
Can’t Trump go to the Normandy Beach and build a heart from some stones?
Americans bled all over the countryside in France twice. DJT doesnt need to risk any blood there.
That is the first thing that came to my mind.
I’m happy President Trump and Melania decided not to visit because the weather was too iffy for a helicopter ride.
And I don’t give a rats ass what other people think.
The safety of President Trump and his family ALWAYS comes first.
I wonder how much it would cost to bring EVERY one of them home and bury them on our soil. Each state funds it for their own.
