This was recorded later in the year by the Turtles. It's a P. F. Sloan tune. Sloan made a huge splash with "Eve of Destruction," but I always thought that "I Found a Girl," recorded by Jan & Dean, was his masterpiece.

Sloan died a few years ago. He and Jimmy Webb didn't get along.

Sloan's tune, "Let Me Be," as recorded by the Turtles, is a simple protest song. In Sloan's album version, it's the plaint of an abused child.

"I Found a Girl" is one of the great self discovery and loss of virginity tunes of the Sixties. It was also the last hit for Jan & Dean. From 1965. That's the Wrecking Crew backing them up.
