I receive a lot of the larger stamped envelopes without cancellations. Perhaps they don't fit the cancelling machine? Or USPS employees don't bother with hand-cancelling?
I sent one large letter recently, and the USPS ounter-person used a ballpoint pen to "hand-cancel" the stamps.
