'Potentially catastrophic' Hurricane Willa takes aim at Mexico as a Category 5 storm

Hurricane Willa strengthened to a powerful Category 5 storm Monday morning, taking aim at the Mexican coast and threatening to deliver life-threatening storm surge, wind and rain.

Now packing 160 mph winds, some strengthening was still possible for the storm Monday, making Willa "potentially catastrophic" for Mexico, the National Hurricane Center warned.

It's expected to weaken when it makes landfall Tuesday but is forecast to bring large waves, dangerous storm surge, gusty winds and heavy rain.

Mexico will begin to feel the impacts of Willa late Tuesday morning. The storm is forecast to make landfall south of Mazatlan Tuesday night as a major Category 3 hurricane or higher, potentially bringing life-threatening storm surge and flash floods farther inland.

Some regions of Mexico could see up to 18 inches of rain.

The solution is to put them right back on the buses that brought them there, and take them back home.

Somebody in Mexico should think this through. There's this hurricane and another storm south of it that could hit not much after. What the heck is Mexico going to do with more than 10,000 people with no transportation or housing in addition to the challenges in the aftermath of a major storm? If those storms stay on track, is the horde trapped? Mygosh, think of looting after a storm even when most outsiders have left the area.

The sensible thing to do would be to find a large stadium somewhere, force them to wait out the storm there and provide tents and supplies, then send them home.

Willa peaked as a category 5, but not for long. It has a clouded center and excessive amounts of convection in the SW sector. It looks like it will dramatically weaken before landfall.

Even so, they’ll be going thru a storm ravaged area. Probably not enough supplies for the locals much less thousands of leeches. Not to mention walking thru the trees and buildings and cars that could be strewn about.
