Jeeeez, I learned in language classes that there is the “masculine” gender and the “feminine” gender. If anyone claims to be anything else, then they’re apparently “neuter” gender, which is fitting, as in”neutered cat”.

There also exist mixed tetragametic chimeras, in which some of the cells are genetically male and others are genetically females, but these merged into a single person.
These happen in butterflies and birds, too.

I am not making the claim that there are “true” hermaphrodites capable of solitary reproduction. But there certainly do exist people who present both types of genitalia. They’re rare, but they do exist. They are the “intersex” of the lengthy list of the alternative genders.

Thank you, President Trump. But would Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and the Dems go for it...? Oh wait, they won’t matter because we are keeping the house...

Incorrect.
There are four genders: masculine, feminine, common and neuter.
But there are only two sexes: male and female.

There are four genders: masculine, feminine, common and neuter. But there are only two sexes Yes, exactly. Tip o' the hat to you.

Two genders - male or female - because only two exist.
Babies rarely are born both male and female, but even then, only two genders exist.
In those rare cases, check both boxes, but only based on biology.
Actually, that depends on the language - many have neuter as a third gender, and some include many more, such as inanimate/animate, human/other animal, celestial/earthbound, and so on. English doesn't really have gender - nouns are almost always neuter, unless it's an animate object of which the sex is known, in which case the only gender found in the English language is pronouns like he, him, or her.
Babies are not born both male and female - they are still one or the other. Most so-called 'hermaphrodites' may have both sets or indeterminate sexual organs, but that is a physical deformity, as the chromosomal makeup is still almost always either male or female. And, they are usually (if not always) sterile. The only exception is a very rare splitting of the chromosomal makeup into part XX / part XY, or part X / part XY. The huge majority of abnormalities (Turners, Klinefelter's,. Jacob's, etc) are specifically male or female - a male cannot have Turners Syndrome for example. There are very few people with true hermaphroditism, it's hard to find data (most places that collect this lump any kind of ambiguous sex organs with true hermaphrodites, calling all of them 'intersex') on an actual estimate of the population. The more factual articles I've seen (ie not on ask.com or yahoo answers) place the actual, truly hermaphroditic populace, at somewhere between 1/20,000 and 1/100,000.

And both sets being present and functional are required for a true hermaphrodite.
No, they aren't. Having a functional teste and penis isn't required to be a male; likewise, a vagina/ovaries/uterus isn't necessary for a female sex. Else people who have physical issues, are sterile, or many other conditions wouldn't be male or female. Or, anyone who had an addadiktome surgery would be truly male. Chopoffadik surgery would make you a real female, instead of a eunuch.
Sex is based on chromosomal factors, not physical characteristics. True, most hermaphrodites aren't truly hermaphrodites, they just have mis-developed sex organs, or an issue where the body develops opposite of the true sex. BUT, there are rare cases where an individual can have split chromosomes, part male/part female. Those are your true hermaphrodites.

There are four genders: masculine, feminine, common and neuter.
Huh? Common? What language are you basing this off of? And what is the common gender? What is its opposite?
To: Svartalfiar
The word "genders" has been used (colloquially) as a synonym for "sexes" for a long time.
But... OK. Point taken. Correction to my post:
Two genders sexes - male or female - because only two exist.
Babies rarely are born both male and female, but even then, only two genders sexes exist.
In those rare cases, check both boxes, but only based on biology.
