Acid rain was a hoax.
No sir. I was responsible for mechanical maintenance in a power plant for 20+ years. I replaced enough baghouse metal roofs that were corroded by acid-laden flue gases to know how nasty it was. We were lucky to get 3 years out of a double clad roof.
On the other hand, we had one baghouse for a circulating fluidized bed boiler (limestone mixed with coal in the firebox to reduce SOx emissions, and combustion that fired at a relatively low 1600F for reduced NOx emissions) and that roof lasted 20 years and was still in good shape when I retired.
Besides, no one I knew in the industry disputed the reality of acid rain. I went to more conferences and seminars than I can remember and met literally hundreds of people in the power industry.
