I wonder if the majority of farmers would be content if they could simply make enough to continue their livelihood while providing for their families. I don’t think they really want what we would consider a “future” (corporate). You could tell me that.

The causes are the same. Nothing has changed.
Bet there is a high correlation with debt.
Bet the statisticians might examine the number of easy money loans and which lenders are pushing the hardest. USDA might be leading this list.
How many of these folks are contract farmers for one of the pork or poultry firms?
The study they link lists pesticides #1 followed by isolation.
I thought the answer was counseling and social support. If we look at how the VA is handling veteran suicide we know that depending on the gov’t won’t work. There was a summit in regards to veteran suicide and the conclusion was to get the private organizations together and find out which were having the best results then sharing the “therapies”.
I was just wondering how many farmers are veterans. There is also the problem with access. Kind of like, if in Alaska you need to know how to fly a plane.
I was wondering if the 80’s farmer crises wasn’t engineered by the globalist bankers period? When did the mega-corporate farms expand? Was it the same time the family farm mortgages were called in? Was it the same time there was the YUGE lawsuit by farmers against the banks (and that the courts SEALED the records?).
I posted it because I DIDN’T KNOW THIS, and I did a search, it hadn’t been shared, and I think it is very important. Something is amok, too. I smell the globalists.

Counseling and support seem to be a big part of it. There are similar principles involved with veterans, in that major factors in suicides are generally financial stress, relationship stress, and/or substance abuse.
Some of the article, however, seemed to be saying that government could fix it so that farming isn’t inherently risky and stressful, which is pretty fanciful.
No. I am familiar with depression and came across this article while researching. I was shocked at the stats, saw it had not been shared, and posted it. If a couple freeper farmers see it and need help, they can find it. Men don’t ask for directions that is why women were created.

This is a tough one.
The article was just asking for funding for counselors. Losing farmers is more expensive. We have a farmer shortage AND a counselor shortage. Especially counselors at the VA. As I asked in a previous post, I wonder how many farmers are vets? double whammy?
I remember when this stuff happened, and I didn’t live anywhere near farm country.

Plenty of ways people die can look like suicide but not really be.
back when: we were in DC to line up our supreme court case (WA v. Passenger Vessel 1979) and one congress critter was honest enough to tell us, after we explained our case and why his help was needed, that we were very justified and he would like to help, but, he said, you guys are only a few thousand votes ... helping us would be just a waste of his time when there were so many other pressing issues.
Same for farmers and loggers who all faced the same issues: extreme laws and regulations, feel-good environmentalism, and an out-of-touch-with-nature public . We are just Natural Resource Harvesters in the way of more important things like property values, sport fishermen, the environment, and so on. That’s why food today is grown and packaged in grocery stores (or at Amazon). Eat more petroleum, plastic, chemicals, food dye, and antibiotics - what delicious food is made from ...
Those working in the Agriculture industry also have higher rates of cancer and diseases such as ALS (Lou Gherrig’s disease.
I’ll wager that the increasing use and dependency upon (GMO crop related) pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers eventually have deleterious effects on those who have prolonged exposure.
Add the above physiological causality to the stress of financial risk and failure, and you have a recipe for psychological trauma - including sever depression, alcoholism and the abuse of prescription drugs - the combination of which could be a heavy factor in the increase of suicide rates
