Strictly speaking, the display of the flag at most, if not all NFL games before the game, stretched out over the field, violates the Flag Code:

Section 176(c): The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

Not to mention Section 176(i) which would cause most of us issues in our homes, were the Flag Code punitive: The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. “It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard.”
