Will Cruz Lose?
The Spectator ^ | September 12, 2018 | Daniel McCarthy

Posted on 09/12/2018 5:53:38 PM PDT by OddLane

Four years ago a seemingly invincible US senator came within a percentage point of losing his seat in an unexpectedly close election. Mark Warner was pretty moderate as far as Democrats go, a good fit for a state, Virginia, that had drifted out of the Republican column in the last two presidential elections and just elected a full slate of Democratic statewide officials a year before. But midterms are when presidents and their parties get rebuked, and Warner, a telecom millionaire who had once been tipped as presidential contender, took his support for granted. The Republican, lobbyist Ed Gillespie, was supposed to be hopeless, but he nearly claimed what was supposed to be a safe Democratic seat for the GOP.

Texas has been solidly Republican for a lot longer than Virginia has been Democratic, and by a wider margin. But that makes the fact that Ted Cruz has only a single-digit lead over his Democratic opponent, Beto O’Rourke, all the more remarkable. Polls suggest Senator Cruz is in trouble, and if the overwhelmingly Republican character of the Lone Star State counts against that, the likelihood that 2018 will be as bad for the GOP as 2014 was for the Democrats throws the contest up in the air again...

Ouch! I choose to laugh at the same time I recognize the truth in your statement. Being a Christian first, Texan second, and Female third, I’m a bit on pins on needles. Sen Cruz made a whole lot of us angry being so rude to Candidate and then Pres Trump. I, however, can see the larger picture and that is to NEVER let any Democrat win over a Republican. Fight like wolverines during a Primary and then back the Party’s choice in the main Election. Sometimes you need to take a bitter pill for the body political to get well. I’m getting my Sen Cruz signage this week. Oh! Have received 2 pings on my Cell phone as to who I’m voting. Both pings from Democrats For Beto. Advised them that I would NEVER vote for a Democrat. They got my name from the Voter’s Poll. Still puzzled me because I’m darn sure I didn’t list my Cell # on Voting information.

For people who believe this nonsense, here is my question:

How is it that in may with largely uncontested primaries on the Republican side and highly contested primaries on the Democrat side, Cruz got more votes than the Democrat senate candidates in May?

Why is it that all the Republican voters who voted for Cruz in May are going to decide that it is less important to show up to a November general election vote for control of the senate than a primary race that literally has no consequence for any of them?

Let me further hazard a guess that a few more Republican voters might show up in November than showed up in May. And by the way, that was a state record for Republican turnout and they largely had no reason to show up. There were no major contested races on the ballot in May.

This is is pure nonsense.

I’m voting for Sen Cruz. He’d make a good Supreme Court Justice. Just sayin’...

LOL My beloved tells me that almost everyday. “With Gov Abbot at the top of the ticket, people are going to vote for Straight Ticket.” He simply cannot see anyone voting for Gov Abbot and then against Sen Cruz.

Yes. William F. Buckley! Born in NYC and died in Stamford, CT.

And don't forget that Donald Trump himself was born in Queens, NYC.

That would be worth watching C-SPAN for the entire process! I usually cannot stand to even hear the voice of any Democrat. If Sen Cruz ever were to be nominated, I would surely make an exception simply to watch the Democrats explode! Sen Cruz, for the flaws he has, is a magnificent spokesman when it comes to the laws of this nation. I have never found him to be dull or unfriendly when he speaks upon laws and would love to see a hearing with him as a potential Supreme Court Justice!

They got your name and address from the voting roll. Getting your cell phone number after that was child’s play.

See my comment #80. The secret sauce for the Democrats for this election is the women vote.

He has done the bidding of Texans and done exactly what we elected him to do. Push Conservative values.
Since 2012.
Either help us and Trump the country in the right direction by pushing actual conservatives or just remain silent. Your divisive comments are hurtful to the keep america great cause...

Been my experience that people who badmouth Texas are just jealous they were not born here

Probably the only single state in the union that could successfully survive and prosper on its own

You are right. Cruz has run a terrible race so far. No where in sight. Starting to see a little fire. Hope it’s not to late. Folks are still upset about his convention f-up

I agree. I am not a big fan of President Trump but I don’t want him to fail. The Democrats only goal for the next two years is to drive Trump out of office. Don’t make it easier for them by not supporting Cruz or any other Republican this year.

Texan here! It’s been 2 years since posted last. Beto is everywhere. Saturation like crazy. I’m starting to feel, finally, Cruz taking this seriously. Hope it not to late. I will say he pissed a lot of conservatives off at the convention

Im pretty sure his knee only bends to God. As it should.
He campaigned for President Trump. Now Trump is repaying the favor.
This is America. No one bends a knee to anyone. That kind of talk is what gives the right a bad name and feeds the “fascist”rhetoric.... Trump doesn’t operate that way and neither should his supporters. It hurts him in the end. Let’s help and not hurt.

“The data indicate how deeply divided Americans are by race and gender: 94 percent of black women who voted and 68 percent of Hispanic or Latino female voters chose Hillary Clinton, but 53 percent of all white female voters picked Mr. Trump.” NYT

That was almost two years ago, before anyone knew that a coup d’état was underway. The Democrats have been working on the female vote since the day after the Election Day, particularly with suburban women. Since the election, White male approval of Trump has gone up. White woman approval has gone down.

Longhorn too, we just finished repainting our house in June. I thought of our cars and of the house. Someone put up Beto signs on houses at each end of our street and I’m taking it as a challenge. LOL Interestingly, both Beto signs are gone as of this writing. NO, WASN’T ME. LOL Think the wind got one and a home owner took the other one down. Either way, I feel like I need to get the honor back up on our street. LOL
