House to vote on changing Obamacare's definition of full-time worker....

The House is planning to vote on legislation that would change the definition of a full-time worker under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, raising it to 40 hours a week, up from the law's current standard of 30 hours, among other changes to the law. Republicans had hoped to vote by the end of the week but that will likely be pushed back by Hurricane Florence.

"This week, the House will take up the rule for the Save American Workers Act," Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, told reporters Wednesday....."It includes a number of bills providing relief for our local businesses from the Affordable Care Act," he added.

Under the current law, businesses with 50 or more employees working an average of at least 30 hours a week must offer health coverage or face fines. Businesses have long complained that the 30 hour threshold is too low given that 40 hours is the standard for a full week under federal overtime laws. The Obama administration argued that the threshold had to be low to prevent companies from skirting the law. The Congressional Budget Office predicted Wednesday that the change would reduce federal revenue by $9.8 billion from 2019 to 2028.

The proposed legislation would also delay implementation of the employer mandate until 2028 and delays implementation of Obamacare's so-called Cadillac Tax on high-premium health insurance until 2023. Overall, the legislation would reduce federal revenue by $51.6 billion.

Employers manipulated 30-hour work weeks just as easily as they could 40. Raise it back to 40 and you would have a lot of people working 39 hours rather than 29.

...

It’s a $51.6 billion savings for those that actually earn the money.

Yup, that was my first thought as well - this ends the perversion of the 29-hour workweek.

More people can live on a 39 hour work week paycheck than on a 29 hour work week. Just think of the number of people whose jobs went from 40 hours a week to 29 under Obama. Many of these people probably had to supplement with a part time job. Everyone working 30 hours a week counted as a full time employee in Zero era unemployment stats though.

Yup. According to the unemployment stats, a “job” was 40 hours per week until hussein needed to cook the books.

Exactly right. That’s the dynamic effect of the law that the nitwit pencil pushers at CBO ignore. Raising the definition back to normal will increase hours and income for millions, which will increase income taxes, and raise incomes for lower income families. A win-win deal, unless you are a chicken shit liberal who wants the government boot on your neck.

The entire premise was flawed. It doesn’t matter where you set the bar—the result is lost opportunity. Working 2-3 jobs will never replace working one with overtime. Young employees are getting screwed from every direction.

Stop the torture: KILL OBAMACARE!

10 extra hours a week is 10 hours more pay than they're getting (and less free time for other "interests")- ever wonder why so many chose to stay with 29 hr work weeks?

More up sides than down sides as far as growing businesses and creating jobs.

The Congress that voted dozens of times to repeal Obamacare when they knew Obama would veto it can’t even bother to repeal it once because they know Trump will sign it. Worthless traitors
