MY REMEMBRANCE
I was walking through the house while getting ready for work, when I glanced at the TV, which I don't usually watch. There was a view of the WTC with smoke pouring out the upper floors, and the reporter on Fox News was saying that a plane of some kind had hit the building. There was no panic, just reporting the incident and wondering how it happened and what kind of plane it was. While I stood there, the 2nd plane hit the other tower. My heart nearly stopped and of course, like everyone else, I KNEW that was no accident. I went on to work and everyone was scared and glued to the tiny TV we had in the back room of the store. I worked in the mall and we finally closed at 1 PM and went home, because it was pretty much empty. Not only did I work in Bush's hometown but his mother-in-law still lived there, and we all feared that Midland, Texas, would be a prime target for people who hated the president. We also found out that the Pentagon had been hit and flight 93 had gone down in PA. For the rest of that day and the rest of the week, I, like the rest of the world, was glued to the set, my heart breaking.
...and my world, along with everyone else's, was never the same. |

Is There Wi-Fi?
September 12, 2018
A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.
Proverbs 15:14 nlt
As I was preparing to go on a mission trip with some young people, the most frequently asked question was, Is there Wi-Fi? And I assured them there would be. So just imagine the wails and groans one night when the Wi-Fi was down!
Many of us become anxious when were separated from our smartphones. And when we do have our iPhones or Androids in our hands, we can be fixated on our screens.
Like many things, the internet and all that it allows us to access can become either a distraction or a blessing. It depends on what we do with it. In Proverbs we read, A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash (15:14 nlt).
Applying the wisdom of Gods Word to life, we can ask ourselves: Do we check our social networks compulsively throughout the day? What does that say about the things we hunger for? And do the things we read or view online encourage sensible living (vv. 1621), or are we feeding on trashgossip, slander, materialism, or sexual impurity?
As we yield to the work of the Holy Spirit, we can fill our minds with things that are true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8 nlt). By Gods wisdom we can make good choices that honor Him.
God, help me to use my time well and to fill my mind with what is pure.
Read Being Jesus Online at discoveryseries.org/q0737.
What we let into our minds shapes the state of our souls.
Much of the book of Proverbs is comprised of pithy observations on how to live life well. For example, we learn about how to handle our anger, how to respond to others with respect, what to do about enemies, and the wisdom of controlling our tongues.
Most of these sayings are written in pairs called couplets. There are three kinds of couplets in Hebrew poetry: synonymousboth lines say essentially the same thing, but the second line restates the first with a different image (see Proverbs 15:10); syntheticthe second line adds to the first, enhancing it and specifying the concept (see Proverbs 15:11); and antitheticalthe second line contrasts with the first (see Proverbs 15:1).
The next time you read Proverbs, pay close attention to how the two lines of a proverb go together. They are meant to express one idea.

I was on the other side of the world. I did not learn of the attack until 9 hours later. It took many readings of the news articles before I could comprehend what happened.
The Americans were in shock and tears. We had to minister to our students as well as deal with our emotions based on little information. A question many of us had, “Are we at war? If so, how will we get home again?”

I was at work at the FAA and saw the second plane hit on the TV in the cafeteria. I went down stairs and told the guys to forget doing what they had planned for the day and turn on the TV to see what was going on. We were disrupted for weeks.

My husband and I were on the tarmac at DFW scheduled to fly to Canada. We kept wondering why the long delay, not knowing about the events. When the 2nd plane hit, we taxied back to the airport & the attendants told us what was happening. I told my husband before we disembarked it was Osama bin Laden. He asked who the heck that was and I told him I JUST read an article that week about him and he has publicly declared war on the United States. The attendant at the parking garage where we had dropped off our car only minutes ago (it seemed) apologized when we picked it up that he couldn’t refund any of our money and we told him it doesn’t even matter. On the long drive home, all our family and friends were calling to see if we were in the air or were ok. We never did make it to Canada. I knew that day that the world had changed for our children and their children and an innocence we had enjoyed without even realizing it was now gone.

I was on Amtrak's
Coast Starlight pulling into the San Francisco Bay Area when I heard in the dining car what happened. I was on my way to a West Coast rail summit at San Carlos to be held on September 12.
It was eerie watching the skies and seeing only military jets patrolling. Beyond that, nothing was in the air.
The meeting was not held. The Oregon contingent had planned to fly from Portland to San Jose but found the skies locked down. The California contingent was at their emergency stations.
We had tickets on the Coast Starlight on the 12th to go back to Seattle. I had expected San Jose Diridon Station to be a madhouse with weeping and wailing travelers lined up at the ticket counter, out the door and down the block. I had expected to hear cries of, Amtrak, save me! But it was a normal day at Diridon.
On the train, I had expected Amtrak to be selling space in the dining car, lounge car, transition sleeper, and floor space in the engineers cab. But it was a normal day on the train.
We missed every dispatching window on the Union Pacific and were held for five hours on a siding in the mountains of Northern California due to a terrorism scare in Utah. It turned out to be nothing more than an engineer running a red block signal.
We were 15 hours late into Seattle, but Amtrak had a full contingent of people there to help us. The lights of King Street Station never looked so welcoming.
I wondered why Amtrak played so little a role in getting people home when the skies were closed. A few weeks later I found out why. One of the major daily newspapers published an article on the fate of stranded travelers.
The first place they went was the rental car counters at the airports and downtown hotel sites. People sorted themselves into destinations, assigned driving duties and determined whose credit card had the most juice.
When all the cars were rented, stranded travelers went to the intercity bus stations and left the driving to Greyhound.
When those seats were sold, they went to the dumpsters of supermarkets, wrote their destinations on sheets of cardboard and stationed themselves at freeway entrances with right thumbs extended.
Only 1% of stranded travelers turned to Amtrak because few Americans knew it existed. The lesson I learned was that rail advocates like myself are very small in numbers.

Walked into my Mom and Dad’s just as second plane hit. My Mom said ,”We’re under attack”.
I was in disbelief. i asked, “attack? By who? The Chinese?”
Then, quickly, deciding the who was not that important at that moment, and not knowing if the two towers was just the first salvo,I said, “I’m going to gas up my car, go to the store , and go to the bank to get cash. I will come back and get your car gassed up, and take you to your bank.”
Did those things, then went to my elderly and disabled neighbors’ houses who might need help with going to gas up, go to bank, buy some groceries, etc. Some had not yet heard of the attacks.
After I finished all that, it was close to 1pm, and I turned on the TV.

Unlike the Kennedy assassination, it is not etched into my mind. I guess because I think the first thing I saw was that an airliner had crashed into the World Trade Center.
At the time I did not know the buildings would collapse or that it was terrorism. As soon as the second one hit, everyone knew what was going on.
I still was surprised that they collapsed. I knew that during WWII a B-25 had crashed into the Empire State Building. It did some damage but was fairly quickly repaired. I had no idea just how much fuel those airliners held.

Good evening, Luv, and thanks you for this 9/11 themed thread.
I was sitting at my computer working with the morning news playing on the TV. I saw the second plane hit - obviously a heinous act. Soon after, I heard of the strike at the Pentagon. It was obvious we were again at war. I called my wife and told her what was going on.
Life has never been the same since that morning.

I was at a training session at the AT&T facility in Bedminster, NJ. The instructor had just given us a 10-minute break, and he walked back into the room and said, Be glad youre not working at the World Trade Center today, a plane just hit one of the buildings.
We all went out into the hallway, where there was a TV with CNN or maybe one of the local networks on. And we stood there and watched as the 2nd plane hit on live TV. We continued to watch, until the first tower collapsed, and then the second. At that point, the instructor said, I think everyone should go home.
I returned to my apartment, just outside New Brunswick, NJ. My apartment was on the 20th floor, facing northeast to Manhattan, about 30 miles away. I watched the smoke stretched for miles out to the east for the rest of that day, and for many days after.
One of the things I remember most, was the eerie absence of planes over the next few days. My apartment was right under the flight path into/out of Newark International Airport, and I was used to planes constantly passing over. The other thing I remember is my shock at how long smoke continued to rise from the site. For days and days, maybe even weeks, I could still see the smoke rising and drifting out to sea, from 30 miles away.

I had a hard time going to sleep that morning. Was antsy with a sense that something was wrong but had no clue what it could be. I finally conked out and about an hour later my husband woke me up hollering something about war. In my stupor I thought he was saying the cats were on a fighting rampage or something.
I barreled out of the bedroom, cussing the cats, and was stunned to see them all sitting or lying around doing nothing.
Then Hubby said, "No. I think we're at war!" while pointing at the TV. "I heard about it on the radio in the garage and came in to see what was going on."
The towers were both billowing smoke and I had no clue why. Then there was a replay of the 2nd plane hitting and my heart sank with the knowledge America was under attack.
Then the Pentagon was hit, then the plane down in PA. Where would the next hit be?
I didn't sleep for two days. Other than helping Hubby gas up all the vehicles and stocking up on food and other items that Tuesday, I sat glued to the TV filled with horror ..... and with loathing for the scum who'd attacked. That loathing hasn't diminished one iota.

I remember like it was just yesterday. I had left home to go to work early, mailing a few letters for my mother and myself. My older brother was from out of town visiting and we had finished breakfast. After getting into work at the community college that I worked at, I decided to call my mther. She saw on tv what looked like a movie with first tower by a large plane. Thought it was an accident.
