Arizona's Senate race is in a dead heat, with Rep. Martha McSally (R) narrowly leading Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D) by 1 point, according to a new poll.

A Gravis Marketing poll found McSally ahead of Sinema 49 to 48 percent, a lead within the survey's 3.3-point margin of error. Three percent of voters are still undecided.

Monday's survey is the first one this year where McSally, who recently won a competitive three-way primary, is polling slightly ahead of Sinema, who didn't face a fierce primary fight.

I’m actually surprised by this. Everyone was acting like Arizona and Nevada were the GOP’s two sure Senate losses this November, that Sinema was a slam dunk.

My take: If the polls say its a dead heat, then the R’s are way ahead.

It could be that the voters in Arizona are sick of senators with names starting with Mc.

In my state of KY, when Matt Bevin ran for governor, on the day of the election he was behind in the polls by 5%. He won by 9%.

So much for polls.

Why would the Republican lose in Arizona?

Well, Sheriff Joe's deluded presence queered the deal for everyone. It portrayed the party as weak and divided. And Divided it certainly was: Almost 20% of the vote went to Sheriff Joe. Even if Kelli Ward still had lost in a two-person race, the party wouldn't have been weakened.

But in a sense who cares. What "party" is there really? The "party" consists of "not Dem". When we vote for a Republican for Senate, it's like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates …

Growing Latino population coupled with what’s probably going to be a good year for Democrats nationally? If it was 2010 or 2014 and it was a true ‘red wave’ election, then no, they’d no shot here, but Trump only won Arizona by a few percentage points in 2016. It’s not that red of a state.

The purpose of published polls is to
A. Drive the narrative
B. Try to gin up a story for press as printing the results of a poll is lazy journalism compared to doing actual investigative work.
C. Encourage campaigns to spend ad money

If “The Hill” says this race is tied, that means Republican, Martha McSally is leading by ten points. Just wait until Trump rallies in Arizona with McSally alongside him.

Looking forward to watching a debate between these two.

McSally should do well.

It will be “fixed” easily. A little more illegal voting and vote counting fraud and the D candidate will win for sure. An R candidate needs at least a ten point lead to have a chance of winning in some places.
