I sell imprinted promotional products and have been an independent contractor for over 35 years.
The majority of us are family businesses. If everyybody in the business was forced to turn their contractors into employees they would have to go out of business.

One of the great things about being an independent contractor is you can do everything the way you want to do it. And if you don’t work you don’t make any money.

Would you pay someone to brush your teeth?

Isn't that what a dental hygienist does?

Software contractors and consultants were the original targets of the law. This will collapse Silicon Valley.

Yes it’s all about payroll taxes. This has been going on for years. Employers are left with no flexibility to get the work done as they best see fit.

So, are California Supreme Court justices “Employees” or “Independent Contractors”?

A hygenist primarily uses an ultrasonic or hand scaler to excavate supra and sub-gingival calculus accumulations.

A hygenist rarely brushes the teef of a client, nome sayin’...?

Now THAT you bring it up, yeah.

Studios will have to restructure and maybe musicians in general as well.

Solution - big box building divided into small areas that have different services but all have something to do with health and beauty. Massage, barber, tattoo, etc.

California charges a business tax of $800 annually whether you make money or not. You have to pay the Sacramento Mob their cut first. See it’s due in December for the next year. Sucking blood out of the little guy right and left

Someone had to bring an action. The State Supreme Court didn’t do this without a case! Nothing in the article says who the plaintiff was, but I am betting it was Brown’s Clowns or the worthless Legislature, or most likely both. And I will bet you it has to do with two things: Money and control of these people’s lives.

I also cut my own, but, am getting on in years and am balding. So I can’t do anything as far as hairstyles are concerned.

Yep, construction and every other field. Employers embraced independent contractor business model years ago in CA and saved big money and headaches...They were able to dump workers comp, having to hire payroll accountants, no need for HR staffs, training departments, and on and on.

But it is amazing how many of these employers continued treating their former employees just like they were still employees! ☺
