A New York City subway station has reopened for the first time since it was destroyed 17 years ago in the 11 September 2001 terrorist attack.
Cortlandt Street on the 1 line was buried under debris when the two World Trade Center towers collapsed after hijackers crashed planes into them.
On Saturday, people were welcomed into the newly renamed WTC Cortlandt station as the first train rolled in at midday.

I visited the WTC twice...took the subway both times.IIRC the subway station I stopped at was in the basement of the complex...but I cannot swear to that.
Yes, that would have been the 1 train at Cortlandt St. The only other train in the lower level of WTC was the PATH from New Jersey.

Yes,I’ve been there more recently and couldn’t help but notice all the signs leading to the PATH train not far from the Post Office and the Episcopal Church that was damaged by the falling structures (Saint Paul’s?).
You can’t miss the huge crowds pouring out at 9 AM and pouring in at 5 PM. Don’t get in their way!

WWII military constructions gangs built airport runways that still are in good condition 60 years later. Gotta' thank the unions for their feet dragging and turning the subway into a major and costly project.
