WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday launched a fresh attack on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, accusing him of jeopardizing the chances of re-election for two Republican congressmen by bringing criminal charges against them just before the midterm elections.

Trump wrote on Twitter the Justice Department’s decision to file charges will hurt safe Republican seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Election analysts believe there is a 50 percent chance the Democratic Party will take control of the House, in which all 435 seats are up for grabs in the Nov. 6 elections. Republicans currently hold a 236-193 advantage and there are six vacant seats.

“Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department,” the Republican president wrote. “Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff....”

I suspect former Judge Roy Moore knows a lot about the treachery of Sessions.

Politically timed indictments. That’s the compalint..even if innocent they have no time to defend themselves (or bow out) before the elections...so much to not bowing to political pressure

Well, we’re anxiously awaiting a response from all the Sessions cheerleaders here on FR, especially the ones who have said “it’s obvious” the little Alabama weasel is working with the President to bring down the Deep State. Take your time, pom-pom girls, we’ll wait.

Sundance discreetly backtracked weeks ago, without an honorable mea culpa as far as I could tell.

How many years will have to pass until the media realizes that EVERY 2 YEARS, ALL 435 members of the House MUST run for re-election???

This is NOT new. Always has been such.

Ted Stevens might have gotten off on a technicality but he was a corrupt politician and adultrer. As importantly, we have several families in Alaska that have a stranglehold on state politics—win seats for life, some hand off to kids. This is a state that needs new blood in office! I lived there in high school and first year of college. Heck, at the time, Senator Stevens nominated me for the Air Force Academy.

Still waiting for Huber’s report. It’s been like what 9 months? Sessions picked him vs. SC. Crickets.

Prosecutorial misconduct (withholding exculpatory evidence) is not a technicality. You would be singing a different tune if it happened to you.

I have no tolerance for corruption, for lies, for holier-than-thou politicians. This is not a party issue and on a certain level, I'd rather see them immediately charged, convicted, removed from office, and jailed, than let them slide, even if it means majority party changed.

And what if they turn out to be innocent? Your holier-than-thou lack of tolerance for corruption leaves out the concept that one is innocent until proven guilty.

A seat that was lost for nothing

Then they get removed from office, go to jail and the Governor appoints a replacement, probably from the same party.
