In any case, it is one lifes little delights to see how Trump has every right thinking person with their knickers in a twist because he has not properly genuflected at the passing of John McCain. Yes, I know, Trump has relented a bit late today with a new statement and lowering the White House flag to half-staff. But wasnt it fun to watch the perpetual motion that is the Trump Outrage Apparat at full steam for 24 hours?
Is anyone surprised that Trump wouldnt join the hosanna chorus for McCain? Is this really some kind of new information? I decline, at the moment of McCains passing, to detail my complaints about McCain; there will be plenty of time for that later. But I do note that the lack of regard between Trump and McCain appears to have been reciprocal, as McCain seems to have pointedly excluded Trump from his funeral observance, in preference for George W. Bush and Obama. Even Richard Nixon had Bill Clinton speak at his funeral in 1994, though I am sure Nixon despised Clinton. Whatwas McCain afraid that Trump would repeat his joke about liking heroes who werent captured? (That was, I thought, Trumps peak World Wide Wrestling movean aspect that was lost on nearly everyone.)
But in the annals of presidential churlishness, Trumps predictably dismissive attitude toward McCain is nothing compared to the way Franklin Roosevelt and his administration went to great lengths to try to prevent Hoover Dam from being named for Herbert Hooveran effort that went on for over a decade.
Wikipedia has a decent and fair summary of the matter:

Good history of the dam...
But wait!! I thought NFL kneelers disrespecting the flag were actually patriotic. So, MSM, why the hubbub over a perceived broach of flag etiquette?
I’d like to see a LexisNexis search on what the MSM thought of McCain when he was running for president...
Well, they suddenly think he’s such a hero, deserving of so much honor; but I don’t think they thought much of him when it was against their directed interests...
THE NYT “opinion” was posted somewhere here earlier.
The Times-—now and then-—pretty funny—the hypocrisy boggles the mind.
Next leftist demand—put McCain on Mount Rushmore. He’s even greater than Lincoln, and all those union POWs who suffered and died in Confederate jails.
Next leftist demandput McCain on Mount Rushmore.
Don’t get carried away, not as if the Left really liked McCain. They saw him more as a useful idiot.
Trump has moved on. He just endorsed Ducey - lets wait for the McCains replacement; but likely someone Trump likes
Ducey had better not forget that Arizonans voted for Trump by a healthy margin. Ducey cannot be re-elected without the votes of Deplorables.
He’d better appoint a reliable conservative, not another treacherous RINO.
The MSM doesn’t give us any real ‘news’ anymore. We just get constantly vacillating opinions, depending upon which way the wind blows and how the leftists and their hostage ‘journalists’ want things to go.
(I’m damn glad I dropped-out of University; I had actually declared journalism...)
Well, here's what the New York Times thought of John McCain in 2008
Lying hypocritical bastards are standing on McCain's dead body simply because it suits their purpose to keep up their dishonest assault on President Trump.
President Trump has his detractors chasing so many tails there is only chaos and confusion amongst the left wing nuts.
We’ve seen this so often in recent years. The only reason I buy a newspaper anymore is for the Sunday coupons, and to line my pigeon cages.
I also don’t do Facebook or Twitter.
I get my news, and very useful commentary on it - HERE.
(And OAN is a pretty decent television news channel.)
I dont think Trump would have endorsed Ducey if he didnt know who he would nominate - just my gut feeling
Did President Trump really order the flag to half staff today, Monday?
If so, I’m sorely disappointed.
McCain the self-serving back stabber who sold out his party? Yeah, what a pity.
