I realize that John McCain was a long-time public servant who spent five years at the "Hanoi Hilton", was tortured, came back, was a longtime senator and two-time presidential candidate. And I realize that the shooting in Jacksonville at the gamer convention is an important story.
But we also lost one of the American cultural icons today when Neil Simon passed at 91. (See below.) Can we not find a minute or two for this major figure in contemporary American culture? Are we THAT wrapped up in politics?
How is the shameless virtue-signalling coming?
I don’t know who Neil Simon is. Never heard of him till just now.
I think he played 2nd base for the Yankees.
RIP. Thanks for The Odd Couple.
I live in Jacksonville, so the shooting is taking up all the TV around here.
If we ignore Simon, we lose a bit of laughter, if we ignore McCain and the Gulag he promulgated, well, there is the rub.
Two threads have been posted.

He sang with Art Garfunkel, right?
Statistically being that he’s a major player in Theater I am going to safely assume that at more than one point in his life he’s been naked, passed out on another man in a pile of cocaine and dildos.
I like Neil Simon, I’ve seen all of his works - But his profession and art are at the core of an underbelly of society that somehow leaks beyond it’s own leaching field to come and attack us for being the ones that pay their bills.
Tim Conway is on his way out too. Keep that in mind.
How is Art Garfunkle doing?
McShamey was not tortured. His injuries cam from his plain crash and maybe being beaten by villagers who found him. He perpetrated that lie. He was held in relatively nice surroundings and gave info to the North
Could you punch Hogg in the face for me when he shows up? Thanks.
Thanks for Barefoot in the Park. I think of the play everytime I have to climb a long flight of stairs.
A minute or two? We can all use some levity right now.
A playwrite of great talent
I’ll just note that Juan was seriesly wrapped up in Politics, to the end, and beyond.
Man you must be young...or living under a rock. Probably the best comedic playwright of the last 100 years.
The Odd Couple, Plaza Suite, Biloxi Blues, Barefoot in the Park, The Sunshine Boys, Lost in Yonkers; the list is endless.
He was an unbelievable talent.
There is already an FR Neil Simon obituary thread.
