Military Faces a Sweeping Turnover Among Upper Commanders
Wall Street Journal ^ | August 19, 2018 | Gordon Lubold and Nancy A. Youssef

WASHINGTON—President Trump is expected to nominate a former operations officer who played a critical role in the 2011 raid targeting Osama bin Laden to head of the U.S. Special Operations Command as part of a series of military promotions in coming months, according to U.S. officials.

The changes, which include commanders for the Middle East and Europe, will mark the administration’s largest imprint on military leadership thus far. The personnel moves stand to affect top officers overseeing conflicts in the Middle East, U.S. policy to counter Russia, the detention center on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as well as stealth operations globally.

The traits necessary to achieve becoming an admiral or general are not necessarily the same traits needed for a successful combat Commander.

You state nothing with many words. It appears you attempt to put forward a logical fallacy, a false dilemma. The military should be focused primarily on "combat" ability either proven or determined potentially via training and review. There is no either this or that regarding traits. Why assume a combat veteran can not also administer other leadership duties required?

TRUMP should consult with General Jack Keane about getting rid of Obama appointed commie sycophants

TRUMP was going to nominate Jack Keane for Secretary of Defense but he passed due to family issues but he recommended James Mattis to TRUMP

Evidence that the military is politicized.

Apologists for the military will assert the military is not politicized. The same way the DOJ and FBI aren't? The same way the judicial branch isn't?

One day it MAY be revealed as to what those special brass cruises on the USS Constitution entailed.

I was actually blasted here by a couple alleged freepers a few years ago when suggesting that the ship was being quietly used for the Fraud’s special parties.

(That’s what told me I was on the mark)

The military is NOT the place for social experiments!! Period!!! The military has one mission, the defense of the Republic. The military has a mission to shoot people, blow stuff up, and break things. That simple. There are deaths, on both sides, but we try to make more of the other guys die for their nation/cause than dies on our side. We reduce casualties by bring a greater force of fire power on them than they can on us, by killing them before they can kill us. Liberals think you can fight a war, a total war, without having any causalities on either side. Impossible!!! They also think you can talk over all your issues without bloodshed. History has proven that theory totally wrong!! Never gonna happen. War means killing and people die in war. We need commanders who understand one thing and one thing only, DEFEND THE REPUBLIC!! To tell with the enemy and their casualties!!! Kill more of them before they can kill us. Been there and done that. Vietnam was the perfect example of a president running the war from the White House, over 12,000 miles from the front lines. I very well remember reading a quote once about the LBJ White House and the running of the Vietnam war. It was reported that LBJ or McNamara said that “the commanders could not bomb an outhouse unless the White House approved it first.” LBJ and Mac were picking all the targets and when and how we dealt with them. Give the commanders the job. Tell them your goal, and get the hell out of their way and let them execute the war plan. Just like Norman did in the first gulf war. They did it right for the first time since WWII.

Don’t you think the plug on the swamp should be pulled before the elections? May not be enough time to build the cases, but the MSM and top level deep staters still have a lot of followers.

Bring them back. I thought the same thing when Trump won the election. I recall seeing a list of 100 generals who had been kicked out and maybe supported Romney. Don’t remember. I’m such a data hoarder I should have saved it.

Well said. Colin Powell was more of a political general officer then Storm’n Norman reportedly they clashed a lot in the first Gulf War. One of my mothers favorite photos was me and Storm’n Norman in Saudi Arabia. Powell was a political type as far back as Vietnam where I believe he was assigned as an IG, Storm’n Norman was a combat officer leading soldiers in Nam. Same with Mattis although he is one of the few to straddle both worlds successfully. This is another reason you want a conservative Senate. Presidents appoint conservative civilian leaders who work best with like minded generals so they promote them. Senate confirms the promotions. Conservative President + Conservative DOD + Conservative Senate and you get conservative officers promoted to general. That said it is still a buddy buddy system which is why so many have been relived of command the last few years win all services.

I saw Gen. Boykin in Boston; he was quite impressive and made many of the same points regarding politically correct officer promotions.

Eh...commanding a platoon in Vietnam would have given him real military experience along with a whole lot of credibility. Just my opinion but I think if he and his sons all had some time deployed with the military it would make a world of difference in terms of how many people viewed him.

Yeah, well, the same can be said for most politicians nowadays who didn't serve on active duty in the military.

I was only commenting on another poster's claim that Trump knew nothing about the military, which is not true if he spent 5 years as a buttoned-down cadet at a military academy.

He knows enough to relate to the military personnel and not be completely ignorant about what they do for the country.

From what I have read, the military loves this guy as their CIC after the disaster with Obama's queering down of the military.

While it’s true Reagan didn’t directly see combat action, he was a Captain in the Army Air Corps during WWII.

I would prefer commanding officers have some combat experience and better yet a CIB.

Pace, Boykin and Mixon would be more names Trump could rely on. The command structure of the Coast Guard needs to go. I’m not sure that it is even salvageable. If you have not bought into the sodomite agenda you have not been promoted. Roman Catholics, Baptists, Mormons need not apply.
