Monsanto ordered to pay $289 million in California Roundup cancer trial

A California jury on Friday found Monsanto liable in a lawsuit filed by a man who alleged the company’s glyphosate-based weed-killers, including Roundup, caused him cancer and ordered the company to pay $289 million in damages.

The case of school groundskeeper Dewayne Johnson was the first lawsuit alleging glyphosate causes cancer to go to trial. Monsanto, a unit of Bayer AG (BAYGn.DE) following a $62.5 billion acquisition by the German conglomerate, faces more than 5,000 similar lawsuits across the United States.

The jury at San Francisco’s Superior Court of California deliberated for three days before finding that Monsanto had failed to warn Johnson and other consumers of the cancer risks posed by its weed killers.

The sarcasm dripped from every letter. I am surprised you can’t see it.

This is insane. Lots of studies show no danger.

Only an extreme deep green institute in France had a junk science “study’ to show this. As I recall.

Umm...Roundup does NOT cause cancer, and the lawsuit was based on discredited junk science. Is that better?

Environmentalists have demonized Roundup for years, not because Roundup is dangerous — it’s not — but because Roundup-ready seed varieties were such an big part of the initial wave of GMO crops. The attack on Roundup is simply an indirect attack on GMO’s. The environmentalists are relentless in their use of junk science to fuel public hysteria. The bogusity factor is off the charts. I hope Monsanto gets this reversed on appeal.

Hey, as though “Junk Science” and “lotto” weren’t clues huh.

An overturn on appeal seems virtually certain if it’s as stated on its face here. The evidence couldn’t show that glyphosate is a carcinogen in any reasonable exposure.

Sorry to see so many Monsanto (ie. George Soros) supporters here. Monsanto destroyed innumerable farms and almost all the natural corn and soybeans in the U.S. and throughout the world by altering the crops dna so that it would tolerate Roundup. This is separate from the question on whether Roundup causes cancer. But anything that can kill Monsanto is a boon for mankind.

If this stands on appeal Monsanto should say F you Amerika and fold up shop.

Calling fellow freepers monsanto and soros supporters because we factually state there is nothing cancer causing about Roundup, is truly stupid on your part. That kind of ad-hominem attack accomplishes nothing worthwhile, other than to mark you as someone not very bright but very emotional, and not to be taken seriously in the future.

Those kinds of illogical, emotional, and frankly stupid attacks truly ARE something liberals often do. Note that is not ad-hominem, as (unlike your posit) it IS factual; that kind of argument IS demonstrated stupidity. Stupid people do that; you did it...ergo...

I completely understand if you cannot follow or understand that. In fact, considering your demonstrated lack of reasoning skills, I expect it. Good day.

I notice you do not address the widespread destruction of corn and soy products and the elimination of natural farmers, which was my main point. And your “facts” are all based on your adored company, Monsanto’s, studies. Instead of facts, you call names. Sure you aren’t really a Soros leftist hiding your deep state proclivities here?
