Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress who has made headlines for an alleged affair with Donald Trump, was arrested in Columbus, Ohio, according to her attorney.
Michael Avenatti, who has represented Daniels, delivered the message in a Twitter post in the earlier hours of Thursday ET. In that tweet, the attorney claimed the arrest was politically motivated, and said "it reeks of desperation."

An NBC affiliate confirmed the arrest early Thursday morning with information from the Franklin County Ohio Sheriff's Office. Daniels was taken to the correctional facility at Jackson Pike and has reportedly been charged with misdemeanor sex offenses. Her next court date is Friday, July 13.
In subsequent tweets, Avenatti suggested Daniels was hit with three misdemeanor charges, and vowed that she will plead not guilty to all of them. "We will vehemently contest" the charges, he said.
In the meantime, however, the arrest forced Daniels to cancel a second performance scheduled for Thursday night in Columbus, according to a statement tweeted out by Avenatti.
Avenatti said Daniels had been arrested for "allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a non sexual manner."

The attorney added in a follow-up post that he expected the adult film actress to be released on bail "shortly" and that she would be charged "with a misdemeanor for allowing 'touching.'"

Avenatti told NBC News that he was of the understanding that there were multiple undercover vice officers in the club during Daniels' show. After the customer touched her, according to the attorney, those officers got up and arrested the performer on the spot.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claims she had sex with Trump in 2006, while he was married to Melania Trump.
In October 2016, on the eve of the presidential election, Michael Cohen, then Trump's personal attorney, used a shell company he had set up to pay Daniels $130,000 in exchange for her signing a nondisclosure agreement.

Daniels has said the agreement barred her from speaking publicly about her tryst with Trump.
In early January this year, The Wall Street Journal broke the news about that deal arranged by the lawyers.

I have heard these strip joints have no touch rules. But, I thought the guy who gets carried away would be the one who gets arrested, not the girl. I wonder if there’s more to the story? She allowed his touch and that’s why she got arrested? This is a weird story.
