Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) interviewed with President Trump about the looming Supreme Court vacancy, the senators communications director confirmed Tuesday.
Conn Carroll tweeted confirmation of a Deseret News story that said Lee met with Trump on Monday about the opening that will be created by Justice Anthony Kennedys retirement at the end of the month.
Lee, who has expressed interest in the high court in the past, told the news outlet that he spoke with Trump about the position, but did not offer further details.
The senator indicated again last week he's open to being nominated as a Supreme Court justice. He is on the president's list of 25 potential candidates that Trump said he'd use to select Kennedy's replacement, and would seem to have the support of his Republican colleagues in the Senate.
Trump told reporters on Monday that hed met with four potential nominees to replace Kennedy. The president praised them as outstanding people," but did not provide their names. He said he plans to meet with two or three more candidates before making a final decision over the next few days.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was equally tight-lipped about the identity of Trump's preferred candidates. She said Trump met with four candidates on Monday for 45 minutes, but declined to name names.
The Washington Post reported that federal appeals court judges Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett were among the individuals who met with Trump. Both are considered frontrunners to be nominated as Kennedy's replacement.c
The president said on Friday he had narrowed his list of 25 possible nominees to five, including two women. He has said he plans to announce the pick on July 9.

Giving him the Romney treatment.
How many times did he meet with Romney about the Sec of State job?
Trump is toying with him.
Strike 1: Cruz is pushing him.
Trump is more magnanimous than this never trump clown.
More courtesy than he would ever get from this ilk in return.
sure....trump has already decided. he met with his top choices for gorsuch. this is for show.
Advantages of Lee:
1. Age 47.
2. Relatively easy confirmation.
3. Unlikely to “evolve”, as he has remained strongly conservative throughout his tenure in the Senate.
I think Trump is simply doing his due diligence. He is meeting with many candidates, same as he did before he selected Gorsuch.
He would be a safe pick, but Trump would get no, absolutely no political capital. He’d be a good replacement for Clarence Thomas....
After what happened to Sessions’ Senate seat, I don’t think President Trump is going to nominate any more Senators for any positions. Maybe next year if the Republicans pick of several more Senate seats in November.
If Trump picks a woman for Kennedy’s seat, then maybe he could pick Lee to fill Ruth Buzzi Ginsburg’s seat when she drops dead.
Of course, she could already be dead and the far left liberals on the Court are playing “Weekend at Bernie’s” with her corpse.
I think our President will be picking one of the women on his list.
4. No one can accuse Trump of pay back. Some non-Trump supporters worked out okay. Haley for one.
Yes, Romney treatment. Definitely not SCOTUS quality.
Let’s not forget who this guy Lee is: after Trump had the GOP nomination sewn up he was in charge of a movement on the floor to try & stop Trump from moving forward...for what? So that Hillary could win easily in November.
That picture of him screaming on the floor reminded me of an adolescent. He also went on the internet demanding Trump quit the race after the ‘Hollywood Access Tape” came out. The guy is an unstable idiot.
There is zero chance that Lee’s replacement in the Senate would be a Democrat.

“After what happened to Sessions Senate seat, I dont think President Trump is going to nominate any more Senators for any positions.”
Sure hope not. Was a mistake to lose Sessions in the Senate, but at first it seemed like a great idea for AG.
Lee would not be a bad choice. He is solid on conservative major issues.
