Having done a conservative survey on three “conservative” area issues. We used various lists of and directories of folk to gauge voters on pro-life, Second Amendment and school choice issues, with 5 to 10 questions relating to those issues sprinkled throughout the questionnaires.

It was very eye opening to me of the education that conservative “leaders” still had lots of work ahead.

At that time, those who were in favor of pro-life, pro-family issues seemed to care little about the Second Amendment, or rather think it wasn’t endangered, while the strong Second Amendment folks were either not concerned about pro-life, pro-family or worse yet, said they were “pro choice!”

Lastly, as our local school districts score high nationwide, both of the other two groups but especially the gun groups were pretty negative as a whole on school choice. As the groups of voters who were interested school choice represented the smaller of the other two, we didn’t give as much weight to their feelings on life, though quite positive but uninterested in the Second Amendment issues!

Granted, this has been quite some time ago (pre Obama) since we did the survey and the US has definitely changed drastically for the worse, I was stunned then and remain so today, that the gun folks (and I count myself on that group) were ambivalent about other social issues. Our last question was optional for those who agreed to be surveyed, was regarding faith and any church sttendance.

Regular church attendees were strongly pro-life and even a number were in favor of school choice (my thoughts in that question would be many more in favor no matter how the scholastic level of their school districts.).

Sadly, the pro gun folks were the lowest on any regular church attendance and I don’t think the pro gun folks have moved much on issues of life or school options.

I stopped going to churches for the same reason that I avoid taverns and other houses of assignation. And I home-schooled the kids. Romanticists are liberals. :-)
