Canada Hits Back! Tariffs on $12.6 Billion in U.S. Goods

Canada retaliated Sunday for U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum by inaugurating tariffs on $12.6 billion in U.S. goods. The Associated Press reported: “Some U.S. products, mostly steel and iron, face 25 percent tariffs, the same penalty the United States slapped on imported steel at the end of May. Other U.S. imports, from ketchup to pizza to dishwasher detergent, will face a 10 percent tariff at the Canadian border, the same as America’s tax on imported aluminum.”

UPI added: “The new tariffs place a 25 percent tax on more than 40 U.S. steel products and a tax of 10 percent on more than 80 other items such as toffee, maple syrup, coffee beans and strawberry jam.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau marked the occasion with an announcement celebrating Canadian workers, as Canada observed Canada Day, its 151st anniversary:

We’re 37 million – strong in our differences, proud of our diversity, and united by our dreams. From one generation to the next, Canadians have brought our country’s promise to life, with hard work, bold vision, and determination. They’ve grown the strong middle class at the heart of our success – and today, Canada’s workers are the backbone of our country.

Canada’s workers build the roads and bridges that get us to work on time and back home again. They put food on the table for families from coast to coast to coast. Some are young people starting their career, or newcomers bringing fresh talent to the workforce.

From Ontario steel to Quebec aluminum, from agriculture and the energy sector in the Prairies and the North, to forestry in British Columbia and fisheries in the Atlantic, Canadians get the job done – and build our communities along the way.

There are only two American states out of 50 – Michigan and Vermont – where trade with Canada exceeds 10% of their annual economic output at around 15% ... other 48 states range between 1% to 9%.

49% of Ontario’s gross domestic product depends on trade with the United States ... Quebec 23% ... Alberta 31% ... Canada is going to lose ... and lose very badly.

The Canadians STUPIDLY don’t realize that they are no longer dealing with Obama, Kerry and Clinton. President Trump WILL pull the trigger on a bigger gun.

‘...lose badly.’

And this won’t take more than a hundred days to see the dynamics at work. By late October, you can walk around Quebec and Alberta to find nervous executives discussing the layoff of personnel.

The government of Cananda is part of the resistance. It’s not going to care how badly the people suffer if they think they’re hurting Trump. Could get pretty ugly up there before it’s all resolved.

My cure to Canada is block all imports to the US including lumber and sell nothing to Canada. Screw that simple minded jackass.

This reminds me of the Japanese government after the attack on Hiroshima. They believed that they could eventually prevail once the Americans invaded the Home Islands. Except, we didn’t do that, we dropped another A Bomb. Game Over.

Except for Tim Horton’s, Canada doesn’t have any product or service that we can’t get somewhere else. We would prefer to trade with Canada because we like them and they are our next door neighbors, but going elsewhere won’t hurt us. It will destroy Canada. This moron Prime Minister thinks that he is dealing with Obama. Ontario can bend over and kiss their ass goodbye.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is just another socialist liberal who is raising taxes on American goods.

Ol' slippery eyebrows strikes again!

(I propose that one nickname we could start using for him would be "Canoozie" - putting "Canadian" together with "ooze", due to the way his eyebrows are oozing right off his face there!)

Good idea.   (Unless his makeup artist is one of these exotically unique creative individuals.)

Who says we must sell to Canada? There’s a whole world out there to pick and choose from.
