Former Republican Nominee for President wants to avoid a defeat for Trump's SCOTUS nominee
Cindy McCain has been offered her husband's Senate seat
Senator John McCain will resign his US Senate seat on July 4, 2018, says an aide who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
"In the end, it was about Kennedy resigning from the Supreme Court," said the aide. "Confirming a (SCOTUS) replacement before the election is considered in the interest of the national Republican party, so that it doesn't become an issue for Dems to run on in every race," said the aide, meaning every race for Senate or Congress.
The Aide indicated that the Senator wanted to wait until June 1 to resign, so that his seat would not be on the ballot along with retiring Jeff Flake. Republican Gov. Doug Ducey will appoint a Senator to serve until the 2020 election.
The aide said that Ducey has quietly offered McCain's seat to Cindy, but the 64 year old wife of Senator John McCain has made no decision as of yet. "Understandably, she doesn't want to think about it," he added.

The people of this country elected Donald J. Trump to change things and this kind of politics is part of the problem, its not a solution.
I’ll vote against Ducey forever if he does this. Not that it will stop him. The GOP-E is strong in Arizona, and it doesn’t give a rat’s rear end about us commoners.
We don’t have royalty in the USA.
As an Arizonan, this infuriates me!
Best news all day.
The Senate is not the same as the presidency, and frankly she should never have gotten away with that.
Strike that idea, then.
I think politicians should have a business background - l don’t know why it became the norm to elect only lawyers.
Kyl? Are you kidding. McCain light.
Ward good, but no chance.
Schweikert o.k. think.
It’s only temporary...why the concern?
You do understand it is temporary, correct?
Hearings! LOL. Please tell me what other governor has held hearings before appointing a replacement. And you do understand it is temporary? Please tell me you do.
How is he going around the people?
So, based on past performance McCain will hang on until the vote so he can screw us again and vote against the nominee. If he dies first he can officially become a Democrat so he can continue to vote.
Oh that’s right!
I forgot!
We don’t have a Democratic Republic.
We have a nepotism based ruling class!
Cindy...because she’s so qualified. /s
no, no, no, if I wanted to be sarcastic, I would have made it a little stronger.
Seriously, what kind of a spouse does that.
John Kyl was/is a conservative. He was/is one of the very few senators for which I’ve had respect.
But he retired for a reason, he couldn’t stand the toxic environment in DC. Can’t say I blame hm.
I strongly disagree. Kyl started out with the tag Conservative, but over time developed into a swamp creature. As a product ofan American Law School, perhaps U of Az as I remember, he was subjected to the typical , mediocre legal education offered by almost all American law schools in the latter half of the 20th Century.
“Seriously, what kind of a spouse does that.”
Oh, I assumed it was sarcastic as being in response to John McCain’s treatment of his first wife and cheating on her with Cindy.
