The rally began with drums and a reminder that the story of most Americans began somewhere else.
A representative of the Piscataway Indian Nation addressed a crowd of thousands assembled in Lafayette Square on Saturday in Spanish, then English. Sebastian Medina-Tayac burned tobacco, a Native American prayer tradition, said a prayer and then sang an indigenous-language song from Bolivia that means, take courage.
We dont believe in borders. We dont believe in walls, Medina-Tayac said.
The rally ended with a march past the White House and the Trump International Hotel and on to the Department of Justice, where protesters affixed signs to the building gates:
We are better than this, one said.
Las familias merecen estar unidos, said another, which translates to Families deserve to be united.
Starting around 9 a.m., thousands had made their way to Lafayette Square, with many more filling in along 16th Street and into Farragut Square, areas that had been blocked off in anticipation of 50,000 protesters arrival in the District.
The crowd seemed somewhat shy of that, although organizers said aerial photographs indicated it was still in the tens of thousands.
About 750 similar Families Belong Together rallies were planned throughout the country in every state from big cities such as Boston, Chicago and New York to tiny ones such as Antler, N.D., which has a population of 27.
The message: End President Trumps zero tolerance immigration policy, which has split children from their parents and detained families crossing the southern U.S. border.

Yawn.
A few thousand protesters in big cities means diddly. The Washington Post is over-hyping it like any liberal protest.
There it is. What so many of the "abolish ICE"-type Democrats really believe, but won't say. These fringe nuts can protest all they want, Americans don't support getting rid of our borders or ICE.
We dont believe in borders. We dont believe in walls, Medina-Tayac said.

Most people who break into other countries think that.””
Same people break into houses.
ALL Americans began somewhere else. You don’t have the right to come here. Borders mean something. Get out.
We are being told by a people that were nearly wiped out (and many tribes were) by unfettered immigration, to allow unfettered immigration.
No thank you, my tribe got the message the first time.
And millions sit at home praying for secure borders and cleaning their weapons
Seems like that "no borders" policy didn't work out for you guys in the past.
The thing about being an America Indian, you're American, first & always.
Thank you for sharing, Sebastian. I will take that as an invitation to come to your house to live. Please provide your address ASAP. I have 7 young children that will need sleeping accommodations. Please be ready.
Do these morons not understand that the policy has already been changed??
Liberals march....conservatives vote!!!
This is a gift. Republicans couldn’t ask for a better election campaign, Democraps openly, blatantly furiously supporting foreign nationals over the US citizen. 2.5 million homeless kids in this country and they are throwing them to the gutter in favor of foreign nationals.
How do you get into this protest business? I’ve had to work 8-5 my whole life and never had a chance to join marches and smash windows. I’m going to retire soon and wonder if there is a place I can sign up.
I don’t really care if it is gay whales, lesbian empowerment, open borders, free tacos, or whatever. Somebody said ole George Soros pays better than minimum wage for his minions.
Message to the invaders, democrats and the media. zero tolerance is not an immigration policy. It is a law enforcement policy. It means there will be no wiggle room when enforcing the immigration laws and previous policies under the Obama administration. So if the media and democrats have a problem with our immigration policy, go protest Obama. At the very least, scream out load what a rotten bastard Obama was.
Just think how many hotel rooms (and food, transportation, etc) could have been paid for near the US embassy in Mexico with the money wasted on these marches.
They could pick people up at the southern border (of Mexico). Help them apply for asylum at the embassy (in Mexico). Then taken care of them while they await a decision. And even help them apply for asylum from Mexico and other countries if they really care about these people.
Instead, these marchers will make families trek across all of Mexico in horrible conditions then wait in US detention. No matter how detention in the US is improved, it won’t match a hotel in Mexico. Our tax dollars and costs in the US can’t match the donations from these marchers’ “hearts” and the costs in Mexico. The marchers should think about the children. (unless the goal isn’t to improve asylum and detention but to encourage & enable illegal entry to the US).
We are getting very close to the last stand of being a republic (nation of laws) or democracy (flavor of the day).
“Thousands”?? I doubt that number and where are the MILLIONS that fat slob Micheal Moore want to lay down their bodies?
The young people don’t even know who Michael Moore is-——I asked a 22 year old granddaughter the other day.
He is irrelevant.
.
WaPo is an arm of the RAT party and only cares about increasing the RAT party voting base (legally or illegally - doesn’t matter) and winning elections in order to destroy the opposition to their commie takeover. Gazillionaire Jeff Bezos now owns the Washington Compost and he is using it to attack Trump 24x7.
“Thousands” lol. Is that the best they could do? With paid organizers, busses, free food, etc. OFA no doubt backing, Soros, etc. And that’s all they could manage?
Epic FAIL!!!!
