Ryan Sets Votes on Immigration as Moderates’ Revolt Falls Short
NY Times ^ | June 12, 2018 | Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Thomas Kaplan

After frenzied late-night negotiations, Speaker Paul D. Ryan defused a moderate Republican rebellion on Tuesday with a promise to hold high-stakes votes on immigration next week, thrusting the divisive issue onto center stage during a difficult election season for Republicans.

The move by Mr. Ryan, announced late Tuesday by his office, was something of a defeat for the rebellious immigration moderates, who fell two signatures short of the 218 needed to force the House to act this month on bipartisan measures aimed more directly at helping young immigrants brought to the country illegally as children.

Instead, the House is most likely to vote on one hard-line immigration measure backed by President Trump and conservatives — and another more moderate compromise bill that was still being drafted, according to people familiar with the talks.

There are other issues needing attention prior to the next election. We don’t need this now.

I think maconnel said the senate wouldn’t take it up this session. If that’s true it just let’s everyone know how the rep’s voted before the election in November

If the OIG report is the bombshell it is rumored to be then the house is going to have better things to do. Of course the report is also rumored to be heavily redacted.

Definitely NOT GOOD NEWS. Anything cobbled together by Chamber of Commerce Ryan is bound to include some form of AMNESTY. Some BAD form of Amnesty.

I think President Trump should suggest that Congress live in trailers on the border without security and guns for a month and then come back and vote on immigration.

That constant need to compromise... to appease the fantasy majority invented by the msm and wide scale voter fraud is what got us into this mess.

Any non-foaming at the mouth leftard political that hasn’t figured out the new lay of the land by now is unsalvageable and quite probably financially invested in supporting the destruction of his own country.

McConnell helped kill this with that statement. He is up again in 2020. Wonder if he’ll run again.

Every time I see Ryan, I have a fantasy where I give Mark David Chapman a new copy of ‘Cather in the Rye’, and send him on his way.

True, THAT is good news. The “bad news” to which I was referring is whatever monstrosity Ryan is putting together to placate his K Street and Chamber of Commerce benefactors.

I think the 218 “moderate republicans”, is composed of ALL THE DEMOCRATS and a number of republicans. So, don’t go thinking, Media, we don’t know what you are doing.

It is NOT a republican majority that want this crap.

But it won’t start with Barbara Comstock: she is still around to fight for a likely Democrat seat in the fall.
