Gov. Jon Kasich (R-Ohio) slammed GOP leadership on Thursday, saying the "Republican Party has gone dormant" and criticizing its lack of action on helping young immigrants in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Kasich on CNN praised the group of Republican lawmakers who are bypassing leadership to force a floor vote on immigration bills.
"What youre seeing happening now is that there are a group of Republicans who are getting fed up with inaction for these young people," Kasich said. "What youre seeing is a group of people saying weve had enough, we dont care about the political, we want to achieve something that we think is justice and its really cool thing."
Kasich added that Republicans shouldn't care if a measure to protect DACA recipients does not have President Trump's support.
"It doesnt matter whether the President Trump is going to sign it or not," Kasich said. "Send it to him. Let him veto it. Let him say that he wants 800,000 people to be shipped out of the country. Eight-hundred thousand people that theres no reason to ship them out of the country.
"I like [House Speaker] Paul (Ryan). On this issue, I just think he's dead wrong. I think the Republican Party has gone dormant," Kasich added.
The critical statements from Kasich also echo comments from former House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday.
"There is no Republican Party. Theres a Trump party," Boehner said at the Mackinac Policy Conference in Michigan.

DEAL WITH IT!
Those attributes, most important in this, are respect & honor for the achievements of those who rallied to Washington's banner in the 1770s.
Freepers can agree with Mr K on this one.
The GOP has indeed shown amazing lack of spunk in putting through free-market friendly and free-citizen friendly legislation. Obamacare is still the law of the land. And that omnibus spending bill a couple of months ago was as gross as Michael Moore consuming the inventory of a Hardees restaurant in an hour’s time.
And then there is the slow-walk of judicial nominees.
Boehner is full of it. The problem is the GOP presidential candidates were so weak, Trump just waltzed in and took it. Jeb Bush had a $100M+ war chest and it bought 3 delegates.
Little bites....John...little bites.
Wasn’t his dad a mailman or something?
Well, Johnny boy is correct. He is also part of theRepublican Party, so what else do we not already not know????
But our state legislature is an equalizer against this nutcase.
Another failed Democrat pretending to be a Republican.
Most Americans don't give a sh!t about these DACA immigrants, and they resent politicians for wasting time and energy on them at all.
Your average American has at least 25 other issues that are far more important to him or her than the situation faced by a person who was brought into this country illegally as a child years ago.
Kasich might as well criticize the GOP for failing to address the plight of homosexual penguins in Antarctica.
I’m ready for this asshole to go away!!!
Yes - voting for Kasich was a big mistake - but Jackass John K couldn’t win a race for Dog Catcher in Ohio since he started shooting off his mouth during the 2016 Presidential Election.
Kasich doesn't know he's being played because he's an egotistical fool ... but most of the fawning letters Kasich's getting - begging him to run - are written in Democrat War Rooms and sent out to shills to 'mark up' and send off...
If they put his brain inside a parrot it would fly backwards.
Says the guy on the outside.
There’s a party alright, you’re just not invited!!
“There is no Republican Party. Theres a Trump party,” Boehner said

That is such sweet music to my ears.
More winning!
Kasich should have followed in his fathers footsteps.
Pig Vomit misses all the intern poontang he and his best sex bud Gary Condit went trolling for in DC.
Trump only promised to do, and is doing, what the Republicans promised for the last 25 years. The Republican party is now the party of Trump and all those citizens who voted for him.
The ideals are the same as they always were, we just have a leader who actually believes.
