North Korea takes aim at John Bolton as it threatens to scrap Trump summit over nuclear demands

By Ben Riley-Smith, US Editor and Nicola Smith, Asia correspondent

Donald Trump’s historic meeting with Kim Jong-un has been thrown into uncertainty as North Korea warned it could be cancelled over US military exercises and if Washington presses ahead with its demand for Pyongyang to give up its nuclear arsenal.

Kim Kye-gwan, North Korea's deputy foreign minister, warned on Wednesday that Pyongyang was not interested in talks that would pressure the rogue state to "unilaterally" give up its nuclear programme, taking aim at "unbridled remarks" by John Bolton, the US national security adviser, and other high-ranking White House officials.

In a statement issued by the North Korean Central News Agency [KCNA], Mr Kim took issue in particular with Mr Bolton's references to the so-called Libya model of nuclear abandonment and his statements on "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearisation."

At best they want to settle for partial denuclearization: giving up a few nukes and missiles in return for a trillion dollars of aids.

I think that has been their original plan all along. They do this all the time. Make people believe a nice deal is around the corner. That do an about-face, and make their counterpart beg for any deal. With renewed assurance from China (including money,) Kim may be more confident.

Kim thinks Trump, like Bubba, wants a deal at any price.

To preserve his Nobel Prize bid, Trump is willing to give in on points.

Kim thinks he has leverage with the summit. He loses nothing if he walks away.

Yay, John!

You get flak when you are over the target.

They hate Bolton because they know he can’t be easily fooled or duped like legions of NSA chiefs before him.

I would consider it a high honor as a US officially to be viscerally hated by North Korea.
This ain’t no popularity contest.

I wonder how Kim will feel when he looks out his bathroom window at the silhouette of a B-1 bomber inbound.Someone needs to teach him the old song, “Wabash Cannonball.”

Listen to the jingle
And the rumble and the roar
As she glides along the woodlands
Through the hills and by the shore
Hear the mighty rush of the engine
Hear that lonesome hobo squall
You’re travlin’ through the jungles
On the Wabash Cannonball

Yup. Bolton is one savvy sunnabeech. Rocket man will lose going up against Bolton and The Trumpinator. If June 12th is cancelled, Trump will squeeze the little bastard even more.

June 12th?

That’s ten days from the German invasion of Russia in 1941.

This is also a ploy to sideline Bolton in decision-making process regarding N. Korea, blaming any possible failure on Bolton.

“North Korea’s deputy foreign minister, warned”

LMAO. Who cares about the warnings from the deputy?

Mr. Kim would be happier with Mr. Bolton. Because the more we recede, the harder we’ll strike in the end.

It is our demurring, appeasing Democrats who prepare and send us to destroy the most (see U.S. military history, largest wars).

Kim also trying to save a little face - he’s backed into a corner and knows the corner will get smaller and tighter if he doesn’t come to the table with an “open mind”.....and maybe his hat in his hand when behind closed doors....

"Kim thinks he has leverage with the summit. He loses nothing if he walks away."

Estimates have NK treasury running completely out of cash by October.
Kim walks away, tighten sanctions. Safety off.

Trump should unilaterally cancel the summit and double down on our military exercises with the ROKs.

You've got to be fairly naive to believe otherwise. Which is surprising, since the pundit class have been gushing all over this for the past couple of weeks, as if those sly dogs have been genuinely interested in getting rid of their nuclear capability ... which is what sustains them.

“To preserve his Nobel Prize bid, Trump is willing to give in on points.”

This Nobel prize thing I think was a prank of some sort to begin with and I have a feeling Trump probably does not care one way or the other if he gets it. It’s really a badge lefties give lefties for doing nothing, such as obama ang Gore. To get that prize puts the recipient in that same class.

So I really do not think that so called prize plays into this at all, at least as far as Trump himself is concerned. He wants results, not some sillyassed leftist medal.
