Critics have slammed Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie all day amid news that — contrary to Runcie's repeated claims — Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter Nikolas Cruz was involved in the controversial Promise disciplinary program before becoming a mass killer. Now Runcie is pushing back by blaming scattered record-keeping and insisting he gave the best information he had at the time about Cruz's participation in Promise.
In a phone interview with New Times this afternoon, the superintendent said the district keeps student data in multiple systems — sometimes only in paper files, which took time to review. Runcie acknowledged that the revelation about Cruz's Promise participation has further damaged the public's trust in the district, though he insisted officials were trying to be transparent.
"It does put a dent in our credibility, but what I'll say is that what we're trying to do is balance being as responsive as we can with the information that we have," he said.
For months, Runcie and other district administrators insisted Cruz had nothing to do with Promise, a program in which students who commit misdemeanors can attend an alternative school rather than be arrested. But early today, WLRN broke the news that Cruz had been assigned to the program in 2013 while in middle school. The revelation swiftly caused a public backlash against Runcie and other leaders, and Sen. Marco Rubio suggested he'd been personally misled...

Broward County, Fla., school officials portray as a great success their Obama administration-inspired program offering counseling to students who break the law, instead of having them arrested or expelled. They insist that it played no role in February’s school massacre by Nikolas Cruz. They also claim that in fact juvenile recidivism rates are down and school safety is up, thanks to the program.
The evidence tells a far different story.
Broward County juvenile justice division records, federal studies of Broward school district safety and the district's own internal reporting show that years of “intensive" counseling didn’t just fail to reform repeat offender Cruz, who allegedly went on to shoot and kill 17 people at his high school. Records show such policies have failed to curtail other campus violence and its effects now on the rise in district schools — including fighting, weapons use, bullying and related suicides.
Meanwhile, murders, armed robberies and other violent felonies committed by children outside of schools have hit record levels, and some see a connection with what’s happening on school grounds. Since the relaxing of discipline, Broward youths have not only brazenly punched out their teachers, but terrorized Broward neighborhoods with drive-by shootings, gang rapes, home invasions and carjackings.
Broward County now has the highest percentage of “the most serious, violent [and] chronic” juvenile offenders in Florida, according to the county’s chief juvenile probation officer. (Excerpt) Read more at realclearinvestigations.com ...

Broward Superintendent Robert Runcie will get a $28,000 raise and additional benefits under a contract approved by the School Board on Tuesday.
The deal brings Runcie’s salary to $335,000 and extends his employment through June 30, 2023.
Under the new contract, Runcie would:
— Be able to trade in 15 of his 29 vacation days for a cash value of $20,500.
— Get $48,000 contributed annually from the school board for retirement plans
— Be allowed to earn a pension based on four years of his service in Chicago, estimated to cost to the district another $80,000.
More than 30 people lined up Tuesday, mostly to praise Runcie’s work since he started in 2011. Leaders of local community organizations, businesses and schools praised improved student achievement, Runcie’s communication skills and inclusion and protection of immigrants and minorities.
Even the Broward Teacher’s Union, historically at odds with Runcie, backed the deal while pleading with the board to provide better compensation to other employees in the district.
“Possibly a year ago I would stand here and disagree. Standing here now, I don’t disagree,” said Anna Fusco, union president. “Mr Runcie has made great strides in helping out our Broward County Public Schools. I think his leadership has really bloomed since since he started here seven years ago.”
A few speakers, however, criticized the deal for giving Runcie a raise at a time when teachers make so little or face other struggles.
“I have teachers sending me photographs of the mold and mildew in their classrooms … it’s clear that nobody is on top of this,” said congressional candidate Tim Canova. “Students and teachers and staff are facing mold and mildew that are getting them sick.”
No one from the audience complained about the progress of the $800 million bond program, which is moving slower than expected. However, a couple board members referenced the delays.
Board members Heather Brinkworth and Robin Bartleman opposed the deal. Nora Rupert could not make it to vote due to a surgery.
Runcie’s old contract would have expired in October 2019. The new deal puts his salary between those of superintendents Alberto Carvalho of Miami-Dade County ($345,000) and Robert Avossa of Palm Beach County ($325,000).

During his laughable reelection campaign in 2016, Israel proudly toted his accomplishments of “sharply reduc(ing) violent crime and burglary rates,” as well as his “innovative initiatives” to keep students in school and out of jail, the Sun Sentinel reported.
Those campaign statistics were nothing more than a smokescreen......even outright lies this turkey got a stupid electorate to gobble up.
In 2013, a year after Isreal duped a bunch of the dolts into electing him, The Broward County School Board and District Superintendent made an agreement with Broward County Law enforcement officials to essentially stop arresting students for any crimes whatsoever b/c they were being committed by minority criminals.
Also whipping Broward into shape, then-pres Obama and his henchmen at The NAACP. Thus—NO DAMAGING POLICE RECORDS ON-FILE for the minority class---the ones committing all the crimes.

Runcie is sitting on a $900 million school bond issue he refuses to spend and his offshore vacaions are becoming more frequent.

The school system got a huge amount of federal taxpayer dollars due to their tremendous reduction in suspensions and criminal referrals. Reducing infractions was not a requirement in O’s PROMISE Program.

Has anybody pointed out to Runcie that "scattered record-keeping" is a sign of incompetent superintending of the school district?
If there is one thing that a school district must do well, it's to keep accurate and accessible records of its students.
What is Runcie superintending if not the daily business processes of the school district he leads?

Resign, Mr Runcie. The violation of rights is due to the program, not whether you lied about whether the shooter was in it or not.

While the MSM was busy banging away at guns and the NRA dominating the news cycle while there were some important elections occurring . The Republicans should have been countering the media assault by citing the failures of the Promise policies created by the untouchable Obama administration and installed by the democrats at the M.S.Douglas High School in Parkland .
Instead of intercepting the ball and going for a 3 pointer or going for a slam dunk they let the media play with it slowly dribbling the ball (the facts about the failures) around the court (of public opinion) so nobody hears about it .
