Giuliani: Trump repaid Cohen $130K for payment to porn star
Yahoo ^ | 5-2-18 | Catherine Lucey and Jill Colvin

In a startling revelation, President Donald Trump's new lawyer said Wednesday that Trump repaid his personal attorney $130,000 in a deal made just before the 2016 election to keep porn star Stormy Daniels quiet about her tryst with the president, directly contradicting Trump's past statements about the hush money.

During an appearance on Fox News Channel's "Hannity," Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said the money to repay Michael Cohen had been "funneled ... through the law firm and the president repaid it."

Asked if Trump knew about the arrangement, Giuliani said: "He didn't know about the specifics of it, as far as I know. But he did know about the general arrangement, that Michael would take care of things like this, like I take care of things like this for my clients. I don't burden them with every single thing that comes along. These are busy people." Trump told reporters several weeks ago that he didn't know about the payment to Daniels as part of a non-disclosure agreement she signed days before the 2016 presidential election.

Asked aboard Air Force One whether he knew about the payment, Trump said flatly: "No." Trump also said he didn't know why Cohen had made the payment or where he got the money.

Wouldn’t Trump or Cohen have to issue the sex entertainment lady a 1099?

That would obviously have been Cohen's job as Trump's fixer attorney. No way would Trump have needed to be involved. Otherwise, why hire Cohen?

Cohen's job was to protect his client from having to obsess over such trifles. Remember, for the Donald, $130K is less than a speeding fine to Joe Six-pack.

As for Cohen, no doubt his billings to the Donald more than covered the Stormy payment.

And that fact nixes any campaign law violation on Cohen's part! Because the Stormy payment was ultimately Trump's money, and thus a personal campaign expenditure, to the extent it was campaign spending at all!

Do we know this is really about ONE payment?

This happened so long ago - and they just paid up?

Sounds more like a series of payments - Cohen had to make the last/most recent one - just because of the proximity of the election.

A “perjury trap” is something else.

It’s not just sticking to the lie you told to the media when you actually testify.

I think that would be just plain perjury.

Don’t jump the shark - like Rudy said - it’s not uncommon for lawyers to handle crap and then have it billed to the client as part of the retainer deal....the client may not even know about some of the things the lawyer does in such cases.

You're absolutely right.

And remember, her FORMER attorney wrote up the agreement...and it's my understanding that he did others, too.....with almost identical text.

I'll have to go back and find the article.

What did he violate. Trump has given him permission....totally.

My boss gave me that same kind of permission when negotiating.

I’M READY TO LEAVE YAHOO EMAIL..soon...

I've got AT&T internet, but they use yahoo mail. ATT has numerous frequent errors when I try to get to the yahoo mail. They both are garbage.

I'd like to dump them, but the pain of changing my email address is holding me back.

“ZERO proof the President ever had an affair with this porn scum”

If she had convincing evidence and wanted to make real money with it, she’d have shown it before the election.

At the time they made the settlement she and her lawyer thought President Trump was going to lose. She wanted $100,000 and her lawyer was going to get a third so that’s how they settled on the number. The President Trump was campaigning 16 hours a day, why would Cohen even bother him over chump change?

Cohen probably billed Trump for it in chunks, with “services” as the reason. If and when asked about it, Cohen may have just said, “You don’t want to know.”

Completely legal, and appropriate.

It is chump change - which is why I wonder if this wasn’t the part of a series of payments. Wouldn’t they have made this NDA a long time ago - and not just before the election? It had to be in place a long time ago - or we would have heard of all this much sooner.

It just seems like too little money - why didn’t her lawyer want a million bucks?

She seems mostly successful - so why go after chump change?

Because nothing happened. She had a cheap lawyer, it was a made up story (con job) and they paid it to go away.

NDA is dated October 28, 2016.

Clifford v. Trump, Superior Court, LA County, California - see Exhibit 1

Remember, she is a has been, she was an aging porn star who needed money and her lawyer helped her pull it off. A quick hundred grand for her and 30 for him and all they had to do is threaten. They probably got the idea from the tapes that had been released, knowing how close it was to the election

Trump is the best president I’ve ever seen and I will vote for him again. But if a man cheats on his wife with a pig, a skank, and a ho, that makes him a pig, a skank, and a ho, too.
