As an instrument for delivering publicity, terrorism clearly works. Or at least it did last week, when the hitherto obscure term “incel” went viral after Alek Minassian drove a truck into a crowd of pedestrians in downtown Toronto. Mr. Minassian, just before carrying out his attack, wrote a post on Facebook in which he proclaimed the arrival of an “incel rebellion.” Standing for “involuntarily celibate,” the term is used as a badge of honor among a fringe online subculture of misogynists who say they hate women for depriving them of sex. So now we know.
Were it not for that post, speculation about Mr. Minassian’s attack would have focused on its connection to the Islamic State. It certainly looked like an Islamic State attack: The terrorist group has been aggressively inciting its followers to kill Western civilians with motor vehicles, and since then there have been many such attacks. Mr. Minassian cannot have been oblivious to these horrific rampages and the tremendous publicity that they attracted. This was an Islamic State-inspired attack minus the Islamic State ideology.
Mr. Minassian is obviously a deeply troubled individual. And mass murder is driven by a variety of psychological factors. But much of Mr. Minassian’s trouble seems to have been fueled or exacerbated by the frustration and shame that accompanied his lack of sexual contact with women. This would have made him feel unfulfilled and indignant, and also weak and unmanly. The sense of shame from not being able to perform a culturally approved sex role may be a key to understanding his murderous rage. It may also be another thread connecting him to other violent actors whose ideology is different from his own, yet whose actions are similar. . .

Depending on how you look at it, they're either losers worthy of mockery or the predictable result of a larger social shift that has devalued and emasculated men, leaving them angry and confused about their place in society.
Lots of press lately about "Incels" including an article I posted the other day from a lefty demanding speech codes to combat their message.
I can’t defend what the guy did, but I think I understand how he got that way. Young men are often very frustrated and impatient when things don’t go their way. Our hypersexualized society, brought to us by the leftist media, has the “incels” believing that they are unfairly left out of a scene where hooking up is the norm. In an earlier era they would not have felt so out of place, because society was not telegraphing these values. They also would not have been able to form a huge community which reinforces their worst impulses. I have taken the time to read their message boards, and it is really sad and alarming. They are dug in, and they are mad. There will be more of these events in the future.
I have also read their message boards. They are scary people. Sad, but scary. They seem like powderkegs, and I see no mystery why all the women reject them.
One of the classic stereotypes of women today is the fat, ugly, crazy feminist — guys, you do NOT want to go out with her.
The Incels are the male version of that — ladies, you do NOT want to go out with them.
Neither Alek Mennassian or Eliot Rodgers were actually physically unattractive or ugly.
Their problems were entirely inside their heads.
And then along came sex-bots...
It would certainly explain leftists.
I remember an episode of MASH where Radar brought home a Korean woman with a baby, who he told everyone was his. It was, of course, eventually discovered by blood types that it could not be his. He confided to Haweye that he had never been with a woman and he just wanted everyone to think he was a normal guy but now everyone thinks he is even more of a loser. Hawkeye told him that it was OK, he was OK, and that if he just kept being the nice guy he was, eventually someone would come along and it would happen. This is the kind of input boys don't get anymore, but which they really, really, desperately need. They would not allow this sort of thing to happen to girls. Who says there isn't a war on boys?
Not any more narcissistic than believing that you are OWED the fruits of the labor of others.
