Some fellow Freeprs and I recently had civil discussion on the relative merits of Stealth.

I post this article to further the discussion.

It’s impossible to have a civil discussion with FReepers about the F-35!

F-22 Raptor would be my money on a Dog Fight

The F-35 is not made to dog fight.

I bet the Russians/ex-soviets kick themselves in their asses every day for letting that former Soviet physicist publish his book on stealth aircraft on the open market. Of course he has a very lucrative job offer from Lockheed Martin when that placed collapsed...

I think the Israeli air force answers that question.

Not real sure, but IIRC the F-22 stealth design was optimized to defeat A_A radar and permit shooting other fighters before they get detected. Certainly there is benefit against ground radar at lower frequencies, which I presume is what the F-35 is designed to defeat.

Two different stealth designs for different goals.

It looked ;like an even contest until the Russian upped the anti with the arrival of their SU-35S. After that the No-Fly zone pertained to US planes.

Just remember kiddies, the S-200, S-300, an S-400 and likely the S-500, where it in theater, are linkable. What one sees, they all see; best missile and best target lock used.

And of course do not forget that the Russian excel at jamming - something the US lags badly on. So all those sensor may not work as advertised in actual combat. This being especially true if the Russians succeed in keeping the AWAC (or whatever it is now) so far away as to be useless to the 22s and 35s.
