St. Petersburg's main library to be renamed for Barack Obama

St. Petersburg's main library is changing its name to honor former President Barack Obama.
The library, located on 9th Ave. North, will be renamed President Barack Obama Main Community Library after city council members voted in favor of changing the name on Thursday.
For more than a year, the city has been discussing ways to pay tribute to the nation's first African American president. In February, Mayor Rick Kriseman announced the name change along with approximately $6 million in renovations, utilizing Penny for Pinellas funds.
“Highlighting Barack Obama’s extraordinary story and history-making presidency in this way will inspire generations of young people in St. Pete and will complement the city buildings and other amenities that bear the name of local trailblazers. I am looking forward to unveiling the name change and cutting the ribbon on what will prove to be an exciting and innovative hub for learning in our city," said Mayor Kriseman.
