Nikki Haley warns: Russia could use chemical weapons in New York
The Washington Examiner ^ | 03/14/18 | Joel Gehrke

New York City could be the next site of a chemical assassination attempt if world leaders fails to punish Russia for its alleged role in poising of a former spy in the United Kingdom, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley warned Wednesday.

“If we don't take immediate concrete measures to address this now, Salisbury will not be the last place we see chemical weapons used,” Haley told the United Nations Security Council. “They could be used here in New York, or in cities of any country that sits on this Council. This is a defining moment.”

Haley raised the specter of new attacks during an emergency council meeting, held at the request of British officials who have accused Russia of using “a military-grade nerve agent” to target a former military intelligence officer who committed treason. Russian diplomats have denied responsibility for the incident, but British investigators say they have identified the poison as a chemical weapon produced by the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

“Time and time again, member-states say they oppose the use of chemical weapons under any circumstance,” Haley said. “Now one member stands accused of using chemical weapons on the sovereign soil of another member. The credibility of this council will not survive if we fail to hold Russia accountable.”

I agree with that but saber rattling like Kim Jong Un is not rational or good diplomacy.

My understanding is Nikki is next to go. I hope it’s true.

I always knew when our local Putinists would be forced to choose between Trump and Putin they would pick KGB Vlad. They are as self loathing as any Democrat. Ha ha.

The inventor put the formula is his book that you can buy in a bookstore. UK MI5 & MI6 can certainly make it. They tried to keep Trump from being elected, too.

Without red lines Russia can kill anyone anywhere whenever they feel like it.

Why not. Our guys do it all the time - even in this country, even U.S. citizens.

Pompeo has called for Snowden’s killing. He didn’t specify the method.

LoL “vote” yes...in fake elections.

Russians are stuck with Putin. They sold out to him (and this includes members of the so called liberal opposition) — They sealed their commitment to a new Cold War when they jumped on the Crimea annexation bandwagon. Which is why of course...the elections will be held this Sunday. March 18th. The 4 year anniversary!

But boy are they paying a heavy price. Economically especially. And of course their freedoms: as the Kremlin has gotten ever more repressive.

With Trump in power, they Russians are in way over their heads to screw things up further geopolitically.

If Trump wasn’t in office, things would be a lot worse. Especially in the Middle East. Israel would have been screwed with Assad and Iran ganging up on them.

There are several pro-West candidates. Grigory Yavlinsky who always runs and gets about 1.5% of the vote, and Kseniya Sobchak, who will get less than 1% of the vote. Vlaidmir Zhirinovksy will get more than 3 times their combined vote.

Now that its obvious the West is setting up Russia for a war on the flimsiest of pretenses and with great haste- they need a strong leader at the helm -.it probably boosted Putin to over 90%

His coolness makes the hysterical undiplomatic Theresa May look like an irate school principal

So we might say Britain and the US are meddling in the Russian election

The US openly interfered in the 1996 Russian presidential elections. It was even boasted about on the cover of Time magazine.

Don't agree with this guy often, but here he is on the money:

Of course I know many Putin fanboys who, if pressed, will more or less admit that Russia’s elections are not fair and the system is biased towards Putin. Usually they deflect by asking “Who else is there?” But you see- that’s the problem. If Putin were ever a good leader, even during the years when things were on the up and up, he would have at least had the prescience to understand that he’s not immortal and he should probably construct Russia’s state institutions so as to ensure stable, democratic succession long after his death, incapacitation, or retirement. In general, he would use his authority to build a system based on rule of law and some kind of values as opposed to a cult of personality surrounding himself. He barely toyed with the concept back in 2008 when he let Medvedev take the reins, but he was so paranoid and concerned with image that he decided to come back to the presidency early.

The ultimate result of this is that wherever you fall on the spectrum of Putin/anti-Putin, there’s really no getting around the fact that sooner or later Russia is fucked, and there’s really nobody to blame for that but Putin. Therefore I can’t really understand why he still has Western admirers today. I do get the ones who just hate their own governments, have no experience with Russia, and just absorb a steady diet of bullshit from RT, Sputnik, and pro-Kremlin sites. But I don’t get the people who work for outlets like that and continue to defend the man and his system. Even if we foolishly attributed all the positive things in the mid-2000s to Putin, all of that has either been negated or on the chopping block to be negated within the coming years. All I can think of is that the Western apologists do it for the money. Those who don’t are complete idiots. There just is no other explanation.

In Russian military they can wear Christian crosses, while not in our military. Military units are blessed by the priest when they finish basic training. Several new churches are being in Moscow and other cities, and Putin the Cathedral of Christ the Savior rebuilt that was destroyed by communists on orders by Stalin.

I can't think of anything B. Obama did to promote Christianity in the U.S. However, I do recall him criticizing it.

Why not. Our guys do it all the time - even in this country, even U.S. citizens.

Because it is wrong? This is simple stuff. Countries cannot go kill people including innocent bystanders with chemicals whenever they feel like it is right. There are legitimate self-defense reasons to conduct drone strikes although those should be limited to situations where there is an imminent threat and it is too risky to do anything else. If Putin wants to conduct a drone strike on some ISIS target I would support that. I do not support Putin killing a spy and his daughter possibly along with other bystanders or police.

If you think the Russians didn’t do it, you are in denial. It’s a classic Russian operation.

Actually an interesting coincidence

The UK spy thriller show “ Strike Back” featured an episode on 31 Jan where an evil terrorist made novichok in an abandoned meth lab in Ukraine
