They turned a screenplay writing competition into a film festival. I don’t believe one winning screenplay was ever made into a movie. And I can’t think of one musical act that ever hit big either.

Junior Brown was the best thing to come out of Austin. Used to play at the Continental Club for years before the whole SXSW hit. I encourage all FReepers to give him a listen.
