'I think you're afraid of the NRA': Trump blasts Republican lawmakers in bipartisan meeting (tr)

President Donald Trump held a freewheeling White House meeting on Wednesday to discuss various gun-control measures, at one point jabbing a Republican senator over his reluctance to raise the age of all gun purchases to 21 from 18.

"I think you're afraid of the NRA," Trump said to Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, arguing that raising the age limit was "something we have to think about."

"A lot of people are afraid to bring it up," Trump said, referring to the National Rifle Association's vehement opposition to the proposal. Some Democrats, such as Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, smiled and nodded at Trump's remarks.

Toomey said his reservations were due to fear that such a regulation would punish the "vast majority" of 19- and 20-year-olds in his state who own rifles or shotguns and are "law-abiding citizens."

“Trump is a populist not a conservative. Sometimes popular ideas are conservative and sometimes they are idiotic. This is an example of Trump being an idiot.”

That kind of nails it.

What about the driving age. If we were concerned about teens being killed, then they should not be allowed to drive until they are out of their teens.

There are literally thousands of high school kids who are killed in auto accidents every year because they lack both judgment and fear.

And a lot of these accidents are caused by teens texting or playing with their cell phones. We need to raise the age at which children should be allowed to purchase or carry a cell phone.

And maybe we need background checks for people to have the right to carry a concealed cell phone.

I’m pretty sure North Korea has most of these rules in place.

I think the voting age should be raised to 25. The immaturity of 17 year olds in appalling.

I was on the other side of that coin. The year I turned 19 in March the drinking age in Virginia went to 19 in July. Then it moved to 20 shortly after I tuned 20, and 21 shortly after I turned 21.

Of course, in Virginia, the drinking age was already 21 for distilled spirits, so the changes were for beer and wine.

The age isn't the problem. Parkland, Las Vegas... It's a mentality issue. The kid had certainly showed all the indications that would help folks stop him. No one did.

Look how many guns are sold to the 18-21 crowd, and how few problems there are.

This is another pointless idiot stick idea...

Purchase age for smoking (in most states) and the drinking age is 21. Young adults these days are a lot more immature than in the past. I am not too upset about that being the limit to buy guns. The line has to be drawn somewhere.

Yes, I was a young marine who couldn’t purchase a drink in California, so aware of the old enough to die for your country argument. I also did a lot of crazy stuff at that age.

Why is the drinking age 21

The American People are NOT going to accept the usual “do nothing” dogmas anymore. Both sides are going to have to accept SOME reasonable compromises or you are going to get something much worse pushed down your throats in the name of “doing something” when the voters turn the government over to the Dems out of disgust with the do nothings.

No one here will abide by a law requiring age 21 for rifles.

They can take that to the cleaners and wish on a falling star.

>> The LEGAL drinking age in all states has been 21 since Reagan was President.

Unless you were on certain military bases. The last one here in Texas that raised it from 18-21 was around 2010.

Today’s older teenagers often act like too much like two year olds to be entrusted with guns.

Speak for your own residence. Where I live fathers take their 12 yo sons out hunting and hand them the rifle, which they already knew how to use.

What we have mostly are snowmobile accidents, btw.

Don't know where you posters saying this live but it just is not the case here in northern Michigan.

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10363_58977---,00.html

The Mentored Youth Hunting program is designed to introduce youth under the age of 10 to hunting and fishing, offering a "package" license for just $7.50. For one low price, youth hunters under the age of 10 can hunt turkey (spring and fall on private or public land), deer (one tag, any deer) and small game, trap furbearers and fish for all species.

By eliminating the minimum hunting age in Michigan, the Mentored Youth Hunting program lets parents determine if and when their child is ready to hunt. The program is geared toward parents and other adult mentors who want to teach children under the age of 10 how to hunt, trap and fish.

The Mentored Youth Hunting program is an easy way to introduce children to Michigan's rich outdoor heritage, teach them about the importance of conserving our state's unmatched natural resources and help ensure that our hunting tradition continues to thrive. Every license purchased means important funding for wildlife habitat improvement and restoration, wildlife research, programs that provide access for public hunting, hunter safety education and much more.

Good point. We haven’t been doing a very good job of that in the last 100 years or so.

14 months into the Trump Presidency, the water level in the Swamp remains HIGH.

Trump won Florida by just over 100,000 votes.

He is almost guaranteed to lose the State in 2020 and not be reelected.

2018 will be a BLOOD BATH if he folds on guns.

SHRILLARY, HUSSEIN OBAMA , and their COHORTS remain free, wandering around unfettered engaging in SUBVERSION and TREASON.

Meanwhile, in the most ridiculous turn of events in American History, a CORRUPT Special Counsel has been appointed by the TRAITOR ROSENSTEIN to OVERTHROW the President, while the arch criminal Hussein Obama Administration and his SOS still run the show.

Trump is completely dumbfounded by Sessions the TRAITOR who surrendered control of the DOJ back to the communists immediately after being confirmed.

“A lot of bad things happened on the other side, not on this side, but on the other side. And somebody should look into it, because what they did is really fraudulent and somebody should be looking into that and by somebody, I’m talking about you know who,” Trump told Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, a reference widely interpreted to mean Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Really?

I expected Trump to act like Pinochet, not like a bitch scared of Impeachment.

The very first essential for success against communists is a perpetually constant and regular threat of force.

Drop a MOAB on Congress.

Problem solved.

19 year old women are adults legally. Why would we disarm them? Aren’t they entitled to the human right to self defense?

If your old e die for your country your old enough to own a weapon. IE Firearm!
