It sounds like President Trump is supporting Manchin/Toomey universal background check bill. Does anyone else get that impression?

Trump is results oriented, at least wait for the result before hitting the fainting couch.

Yep. Trump isn’t for the faint-of-heart “supporters”.

You’re right. But we have to write and call to push for him and congress to do the right thing

Why do WE have to give something up whenever the Dems whip up a public frenzy with their paid for actors.

You don’t capitulate to children throwing a temper tantrum.

Whatever they cobble together, it has to pass both houses.

Until then, this is just PR talk....................

Honestly, I think trump just wings it, then his advisors reign him back in afterwards

Perhaps this is, once again, 4 dimensional chess. Trump looks wobbly on guns, and the REPUBLICANS are needed in Congress to stand up for gun rights.

To put it another way, if Republicans choose to sit out the election, they may very well see the beginnings of what will be a very quick march towards the gun confiscation...Trump will not be there as a backstop - it is UP TO US to make sure that the House remains the backstop.

Unrelated to that, but still 4-dimensional, perhaps Trump wants the Democrats to SHOW THEIR HANDS on gun control, as literally everyone in DC knows that Democrats LOSE elections over gun rights, at least those in competitive districts. The strategy they had been using is to lay low on guns, say whatever works to get elected, and then move out AFTER the election. Trump may well force them to move before they’re ready to do so.

Trump says a lot of things, but what he does is held in check by a lot of other forces.

According to those on the left, being Christian is now a mental illness.

And there it starts......

and then there are all the Vets (oathkeepers) who will protect us if the SHTF. But wait, they had PTSD when they came back so we had to take their guns away too.

Slippery Sloap!

Call anyway. Let your voice be heard and let’s show the congress how important the “gun lobby” really is in this country.

“Yep. Trump isn’t for the faint-of-heart “supporters”.”

Nope.

Those people that just supported him because it was Nov 2016 are the usuals that run screaming with their hair on fire every damn day, looking for “proof of a sell-out”.

I get a real uneasy feeling when the topic is guns and Dianne Feinstein and Amy Klobuchar are smiling ear-to-ear and nodding in agreement when POTUS makes a comment.

Until he pulls the rug out from underneath them.

My guess is Ivanka strikes again.

The rationale is probably to try to ‘triangulate’ like Bill Clinton did, but the underlying reason is likely Daddy’s Little Girl.

You can bet they record every purchase forever.

If you want to keep your guns, don’t buy or sell one.

Concerning. Grassley is right that the mentally ill who are dangerous should not have a gun, but just taking someone’s gun without due process just because they are mentally ill could be a slippery slope because qualifies as mentally ill? Depression? People falsely labeled?

Yep, with cover by Trump 100% of the dems will go for any item of gun control and there are enough squish repubs to get severe infringements to the 2nd.

With such small margins in the swing states and districts the midterms turn blue. Lame Donald duck will have lost in.

A couple more shootings between now and near Nov. the midterms will be a bloodbath. NRA wont be able to hold the tide on defections. If Trump can cross them all other politicians can too.

Here in WV Manchin is considerd a traitor by those who voted Trump. Kissing Manchins ass will leave a huge stink on Trump. He loses someone like me, a die hard Reagan constitutional conservative he is totally screwed.

...or Trump is playing the game similar to the Bush did in 2004 as the clock ran out on Bill Clinton’s 10-year ban, when he said something like “of course I’ll sign an extension of the ban, once Congress sends it to me”.

Never happened, even after Pelosi and the Democrats swept in 2006, nope, not getting near that one.

So I say, let Trump have his fun with this, as the Democrats will lose out no matter what.

He will make it unpalatable to the Democrats. With Daca, he demanded that it make 2.5 times larger numbers of dreamers eligible than the Demos wanted. Which makes him the benefactor rather them. See how that works? Negotiation works.
