The do nothing Florida deputy who stayed outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS as a killer stalked its halls was lauded in 2014 for his work.
Scot Peterson, who resigned his post as a school resource officer last week, was hailed by the Broward County Crime Commission as a School Resource Officer of the Year for handling issues with tact and judgment.
The commission, whose motto is Evil triumphs when good people stand idly by, applauded Petersons numerous investigations and follow-ups entailing property crimes, assaults and narcotics violations.

Well, he was doing everything right for himself in a social and political sense, when it comes to money and avoiding risks. It’s been all the rage for decades now.
I call it part of the paradigm of corruption, though.

Survivor guilt can be a terrible thing.
Methinks he may eat his gun by the one-year anniversary.

Disgraced deputy in Florida shooting once named officer of the year
I equate "office of the year" to "employee of the month", which many companies hand out as awards, but which are mostly meaningless. Everybody eventually gets that kind of award, unless you suck really bad.
But, no award that was ever handed out, was more meaningless than the Nobel Peace Prize which Obama received, for doing nothing at all, and which just about everybody can conclude years later, was completely unmerited and undeserved. What bothers me the most about Obama's award, is how he never had the decency to give it back, because, even he knew/knows that he should never have received it.

Some people believe that it is whom you know rather than what you know, that really matters.
Eventually government becomes unable to properly function.

Just a guess : He probably thought all the kids liked him, when in reality they were probably laughing behind his back for being such a pushover, Young people respect measured discipline, not the coddling from a turkey trying to make friends ....actually could have been a factor leading up to this, the shooter could have been encouraged in a peripheral way by this turkey

"Methinks he may eat his gun by the one-year anniversary." If he can figure out how to unholster it. I've seen no evidence that he knows how.
