UNSC okays Kuwait resolution on Syria
Arab Times On-Line ^ | 24 Feb 2018 33 minutes ago CST | Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi, the UNSC president for February

NEW YORK, Feb 24, (Agencies): UN Security Council unanimously approved Saturday a draft resolution presented by Kuwait and Sweden to establish a 30-day humanitarian truce in Syria. The resolution will pave way for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the areas under seige in Syria.

The resolution demanding the ceasefire “without delay” was adopted as Syrian government forces pounded the rebelheld enclave of Eastern Ghouta, where hundreds have died during a week-long assault. “We are late to respond to this crisis, very late,” US Ambassador Nikki Haley told the council after the vote, accusing Russia of stalling the vote.

More than 500 people, including more than 120 children, have been killed in seven days of relentless airstrikes in Eastern Ghouta, which UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described as “hell on earth.” The resolution demands a cessation of hostilities “without delay” throughout Syria to allow the “safe, unimpeded and sustained” deliveries of aid and evacuations of the sick and wounded.

To win Russia’s approval, language specifying that the ceasefire would start 72 hours after the adoption of the draft was scrapped, replaced by “without delay,” and the term “immediate” was also dropped in reference to the aid deliveries and evacuations.

Diplomats said they were confident that this would not open the door to postponing the ceasefire, as council members had made clear in negotiations that the truce must quickly come into force.

Provided the UNSC intends that the resolution applies to Turkey’s actions against Syrian territory as well, then O.K.; otherwise I have a big complaint to give to Nikki Haley and Donald Trump.

Time to get the jihadis resupplied! Before they run out of shells to fire into civilians

Yes, I’m aware. But lets hope the international pressure on Turkey will back him away.

The Jihadi’s can be talken care of. Kurds have much experience in killing them. But this must end.

No 30 day truce! That only gives the jihadis time to lick their wounds and regroup. If Assad was smart he would go directly into the assault and wipe these head choppers out.

And of course, the other way a cease fire could happen is that the Sunni jihadis could wave a white flag, surrender, and promise to be good citizens again.

“The 8th Air Force announced it today that it was beginning a 30 day cease-fire in it’s bombing campaign against Germany. Patton has also ordered a 30 day halt of all offensive actions for the 3rd Army. Eisenhower said this was intended to allow German forces to conduct humanitarian work in the heavily bombed areas in several major cities, and so supplies could be moved into the cities without the constant worry of attack by P-47 Thunderbolts... Herr Goebels has announced on Radio Berlin that the German forces promise they will only be conducting relief work, and that they will soon release films to show these relief efforts.”

Thinking more about Ghouta than Afrin here

Ive read the suffering civilians of Ghouta dont want a ceasefire, they want the SAA and the Russians to keep cleaning out the radical militias

Shades of Aleppo

This bothers me on reflection:

"In another concession to Russia, the resolution said the ceasefire will not apply to operations against the Islamic State group or al-Qaeda, along with “individuals, groups, undertakings and entities” associated with the terror groups."

Is this the out to keep hitting Efrin? There are no ISIS or Daesh in Efrin, but Turkey says YPG is PKK. Ironically, Turkey employs both ISIS and al Qaeda in their FSA. Fact.

Resupplied or relocated out of harm’s way.

Bearded women in burqas boarding luxury busses for Idlib- or our base near Jordan for our special friends- as we helped to facilitate getting sunni islamist militias out of Aleppo

Even notice how the UN calls for a truce every time the Syrians get rolling, but you never hear a push for one when the other bad guys are making progress?

The UN is largely worthless. But at this point I will welcome help from anywhere.

Must go for now, have 2 mares that need feeding.

I’m not sure what ‘help’ you think the UN will provide. Child rape? Permitting massacres? Helping terrorists out of a trap? Spreading Cholera?

Is this the out to keep hitting Efrin?

Russia isn't trying to hit the Kurds, they're trying to hit the western backed Sunni orcs fighting alongside ISIS in E. Ghouta.

I doubt anyone at the UN is giving Afrin a second thought.

The only thing they can bring is a forum of a few nations to pressure as a group.

The former Syria is now effectively partitioned into Syria west of the Euphrates, and Rojava the former Syria east of the Euphrates.

In Rojava, the the US and a coalition of Kurds and Sunni tribesman are in control. Israel is providing intel.

In the Syria, Assad’s forces, local tribes, with Iran and Russia and their mercs are in control.

The third major player is Turkey that hates everyone else and thinks they want a seat at the table with the Turkmen tribesmen in N Syria.

Organizing a cease fire between these three blocs is just plain a fantasy for now.

What the three blocs are doing is consolidating their holdings and ethnically cleansing all the lesser militias, AQ, ISIS. When that is done there will not be peace, but there will be order.

Afrin, you have a real problem.
