Parkland shooter always in trouble, never expelled. Could school system have done more?

At times, Nikolas Cruz’s behavior could be a school administrator’s nightmare: Teachers and other students said he kicked doors, cursed at teachers, fought with and threatened classmates and brought a backpack with bullets to school. He collected a string of discipline for profanity, disobedience, insubordination, and disruption.

In 2014, administrators transferred Cruz to an alternative school for children with emotional and behavioral disabilities — only to change course two years later and return him to a traditional neighborhood school, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Cruz was banished from Douglas a year later for other disciplinary violations — then toggled between three other alternative placements, school records obtained by the Miami Herald show.

If the frequent transfers — records show there were six in three years — did little to stanch Cruz’s disruptive behavior, they eventually became the only option left in the school district’s toolbox. Contrary to early reports, Cruz was never expelled from Broward schools. Legally, he couldn’t be.

Under federal law, Nikolas Cruz had a right to a “free and appropriate” education at a public school near him.

How about arresting him when he showed up for school with ammo in his backpack?

Not only was he a "known wolf", he was a very well known wolf.

Many red flags and laws got in the way of getting that guy the mental health help he clearly desperately needed.

Yes....for starters the school can tear up that idiotic agreement with the NAACP not to expel or discipline the problem kids.

Next, the local sheriff should be hauled in a fired and then tried for failure to discharge duties as his office visited the kid's home 30+ times.

This situation was very preventable.

They might want to rethink this whole no expulsion thing.

Exactly.

A kid with a past like that should have been flagged in a database that prevented him from legally purchasing any firearm.

Of course, that wouldn't have stopped him from stealing a gun and using it...or using a bomb or some other weapon for doing harm.

The school never reported the shooter to police as a matter of SJW policy.

Every high school in the country has students just like Cruz.

Lucky for us all, they don’t all act out to the extreme Cruz did and kill 17 people.

What stops the tens of thousands of those who are just like Cruz?

God only knows.

We had reform schools for troubled youth back when I was young.

NO!

Only WE can do more!

For us to ask the school to do more is TREASON!

HOW DARE US EXPECT THEM TO DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT OR TAKE ANY ACTUAL STEP WHATSOEVER!

HOW DARE!

This article starts to dig into the real problem

America’s media and leftist whine, and it simply becomes a political football and we all agree to do something completely useless like “regulating bump stocks”

real authority, freedom and responsibility need to be given to (and required from) LOCAL authorities - school, police, community.

The bureaucratic, contradictory, lowest-common-denominator, combined with our atomized society, allows people like Cruz, whose problems were clearly know, to carry on.

Calling the FBI is like putting a baby in a dumpster and the statist’s final excuse.

Yes, and they should do more. Allow the teachers to be armed with proper training and Conceal certification, and let all know that they are armed. More than likely, at least some of the dead would still be alive, and the students could concentrate on learning, not dodging bullets.

Juvenile delinquents RULE the schools. Victims and their families should be outraged at their school’s discipline code and preparing to sue the BC School board and Sheriff’s office for this collaboration. Nikolas Cruz was never busted at school because of the 2013 NAACP collaborative discipline policy:

http://www.ncjfcj.org/sites/default/files/Broward%20Co%20Collaborative%20Agreement%20on%20School%20Discipline%20-%20MOU.pdf

Broward County’s School Discipline ‘Agreement” signed by the Sheriff, State Atty and local judges. Its purpose is to keep minority juvenile delinquents out of prison by not enforcing Florida state laws in schools.

These various behaviors will NOT result in suspension or expulsion or notification to the police. Instead they receive warnings, lectures and possible stern scolding!

The infractions include -All student misbehavior and these non-violent infractions:

Disrupting or Interfering with class
Affray - fighting in a public place
Theft if less than $300
Vandalism damages < $1,000
Disorderly conduct
Trespassing, Loitering or Prowling
Criminal Mischief
Gambling
Harrassment or Threats
Alcohol -all related offenses
Possession of Cannabis
Drug Paraphernalia
Obstructing Justice w/out Violence

“Go ahead kids. Smoke pot, booze it up, fight, THREATEN a teacher and tear the bloody place up! The NAACP & Broward schools & their sheriff got your back. Since your family has failed to discipline, a sanctuary program for criminal youth continues at your school.

This goes right to Item #4 in my Post #44 at the link below.

Underlying causes of mass shootings:

#4 -- We are increasingly forced to interact with people who don't mean sh!t to us.

They still do. Its called residential treatment centers/school. This kid was exactly the type of kid who should have been placed there, at the state’s expense. They almost never do it because of the cost.

No - he was crying out for an ass-whipping.
