William Henry Harrison to tout cold remedies? Teddy Roosevelt for big game hunting excursions? Taft for weight loss programs? Harding for tea pots?

I have a Dodge Truck.

I will NEVER buy a new Chrysler product.

Remember when they closed all of the Republican owned dealerships?

At least 2 in NH.

Most car dealers are major supporters of the local and national political parties.

Now there are only democrat owned Chrysler ones.

When you buy a Chrysler product, you might as well be sending a donation to the democrats

Plus, Dodge trucks have become junk. The engines being the only good part.

One of my friends who has owned Dodge for all of his almost 80 years bought an F150 this year because he was sick of the thousands of dollars worth of problems with the Dodge.

All I have is Ford, Mercedes and Land Rover now, and I have never cared about brand.

Call the Waaaahmbulance. So what are the "protestors" going to do now, claim that King's image doesn't belong to his heirs and assigns? Thanks SoFloFreeper.

I take it back; I have seen a black person driving a pickup truck once and it was on TV, the show was called Sanford and Sons. That’s the only time.

That’s because they’re usually work trucks.

I agree. It had a very high creep factor, and it matched up well with the majority of the rest of the Superbowl ads. A bunch of creepy SJW nonsense, with a corporate logo at the end. The worse batch of ads for the Superbowl ever.

I posted this last night on the live Super Bowl thread:

What I learned while watching the Super Bowl is...

...that it's now okay to use Martin Luther King, Jr. to sell Dodge Ram trucks.

Your post was clarifying for me.

The Summer of Love in 1967 forever changed advertising. Madison Ave. went into high gear marketing products to youth using the radically new culture memes of hippies, flower power, peace, love, etc. It was a titanic shift away from conventional marketing strategy of targeting The Greatest Generation and reflected a new cultural age.

Today the majority culture of youth is social justice. Madison Avenue (or it’s modern metaphor whatever that is) is just reacting to that change in society.

It’s not about the message. It’s about making money off of people who are stupid enough to buy into the message.

Thanks for your post dissecting the GMC commercial.

I thought it was because pickups are steriotypical white redneck vehicles and blacks will not touch one.

Most car dealers are major supporters of the local and national political parties.

Obama purged the Conservatives out of the car business.

Well said. “Very high creep factor” is the right term for all of it. I just can’t believe that all this money is spent simply to make unvarnished political statements.

The T-Mobile one with the babies was the worst. Are people going to go sign up with T-Mobile because they just barfed out a bunch of left-wing talking points? No, they’re going to use whatever network they think is best. Are a ton of people going to never even consider using T-Mobile simply because of this stupid ad? Absolutely.

I continue to be amazed at how disconnected advertising is from actually trying to enhance the sales of the product being advertised. These companies buying these ads just have so much money that they don’t even care it seems. Well, whatever. I’m done with Super Bowl ads. They’re all cringeworthy.

It was one of his sermons about the evils of capitalism, so overall not really a well thought out message.
