As I suggested last night, the only reason that Schiff is even making this "Hail Mary" attempt is the likelihood that committee members are at the GOP retreat in West Virginia. Any revote he thought he could force would have to wait until the retreat ends; only then would another five-day countdown begin.

The other factor could be that if House committee members were forced to leave the retreat early to expedite a revote, then Schiff successfully disrupts the GOP strategy session.

Looking back to look forward, one is reminded that Boehner, Ryan, or McConnell would never try such obstruction tactics against Democrats no matter how many times Democrats had done it to them. Even now, McConnell falls back to the pattern of letting Schumer have free reign to dominate Senate messaging when Republicans win victories.

Fair point, but let's also be honest here. McConnell pulled off the most magnificent and consequential obstruction job in decades when he refused to hold a vote on the Merrick Garland nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Sometimes the Republicans just do it more subtly instead of parading in front of the TV cameras.
