“Hill country of Texas.”

That is South Texas. Central Texas (particularly the western side) is mostly Anglo. I have lived in Texas most of my life and only know a few words of Spanish (that I picked up in trips South of the border).

Well Jim, it's been my experience from making a dozen trips to the Hill Country that English and German work equally as well as Spanish.
I rather enjoy dusting off meine Deutsche sprechen when I go there.
My wife and I may very well move there from Irving after my son graduates from HS in a couple of years. OTOH, our grandson spends a lot of time with us, and a new elementary school is being built across the street from where we live.
I love the Hill Country. Even if we don't move there, it's a mere 4 hour drive from where we live.
