The White House got some help last night in fending off Michael Wolffs dishy, gossipy book on Donald Trump Tony Blair. The former prime minister blasted Wolffs reporting as a complete fabrication on a claim made that Blair warned about British intelligence surveilling the Trump campaign. Blair expressed consternation that the uncorroborated allegations in Fire and Fury have been embraced so unquestioningly:
Speaking of unexpected sources, the best White House response to Wolff comes from the spokesperson who got run out of the West Wing months ago. Sean Spicer calmly dissects the credibility issues in this appearance on ABCs Good Morning America, although one has to go to the bottom of the ABC report to find it in the print version. George Stephanopoulos pushes Spicer to admit the quotes involving him are accurate, which Spicer does but explains that the context for them has been twisted around. The book, from what Spicer has seen so far, is filled with out-of-context quotes and imagined reporting.
If its 10% or 20% or 50% or 70% that isnt true, Spicer argues, the readers not left to know which is true and which is not. Blair would certainly agree:

Dossier Part II
If at first you don’t deceive try try again.
Well, that’s an unexpected good thing! Blair is an ur-liberal, so I guess they thought he wouldn’t mind having his name taken in vain. But guess what...he does.
Surprising that Hotair (Ed Morissey) would come print anything that might remotely benefit Trump.
The deep state must be getting very desperate to have a book debunked in less time than it took to write it. It’s like they are not even trying anymore to look as if they are legitimate. They are just blatantly making stuff up.
Bit by bit Wolff’s book will be deconstructed. What Wolff say he has are recordings. That is what would be most damaging to people like Bannon.
I truly believe what Wolff did was highly despicable, that is, cash in on a part of America so determined to soak in anything negative about Trump they can find, true or not.
That said, I also think the buyers of this book deserve to be taken.
Wolff may need those putative recordings for the defamation/libel trial. I bet he doesn’t have them. I’ve lost count of individuals who state flat out he made up quotes from them.
The question is why hasn’t the WH cited Blair’s criticism of Wolfe more stridently. The answer is as it is in all things past, the lefty is doing such a great job on his own to hang himself, just give him more rope to complete the job.
Bannon ought to file first in that case. At this point he is basically destroyed.
Eddie: Good one. You are the first to make that connection that I am aware of...
