A gunman shot and killed a deputy, and wounded four other deputies and two civilians at an apartment complex during a domestic violence call early Sunday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.
About 5:15 a.m., deputies responded the Copper Canyon Apartments complex at 3404 E. County Line Road in Highlands Ranch, between Colorado and University boulevards.
A gunman opened fire, hitting five deputies and two civilians. One deputy was confirmed dead and the six others were taken to hospitals, the sheriff’s office said.
The gunman was shot, is believed to be dead and is “no longer a threat,” the sheriff’s office said.

It’s a problem. When they’ve done what you suggested, perfectly innocent but confused people have ended up getting shot, and then the cop ends up in the midst of major trouble - or, conversely, the police don’t go in until it’s too late to save the victim.
These are horrible calls, and every cop hates getting them, because it’s a no win situation. Even if the guy blows his own brains out, the cops get blamed - and a lot of times he decides he wants to take out a few other people with him. Also, the wife or the whatever (the “victim”) will often then turn on the cops and attack them.
Horrible news! The immorality and insanity are increasing.

Update: The deputy killed was a 29 year-old father of two, Zachary Parrish.
The perp was well-known to Douglas County Sheriffs, he was an Iraq vet and had a running grudge against the Sheriff’s Dept. A selfie video of him was shown where he talked to the camera and was obviously a mentally disturbed individual, thought the Sheriff’s Dept had it in for him and was after him.
Interesting also in light of the call being reported as a domestic disturbance.
